Oh yeah, we have one cat who lives for people food. He was a starved little thing and all he thinks about is food. He's Ryan's cat but I am in the process of stealing him - anytime I get some food he's right there waiting to see if he will get any. Pickier than a dog of course, but he likes anything cheesy.
Since my WLS, my 18 pound pug has gained 3 pounds. My loss is his gain. He's always finishing my plate for me.
I think all of us in the age range from 30-50 are members of that "clean plate club." It's a left over partially from the Great Depression that our parents or parent's parents went through. I even subjected my son to this club.
it's a tough habit to break especially when you didn't have enough growing up.
My mom never bought junk food. It was always fresh fruit for us or raisins. So when I got out on my own, we always had junk food and I hoarded it. I even hid it from my family because I never got to experience it growing up. Now that's not the same as your family not having enough money to feed the family well, but it's still subjected me to warped thinking and eating.

I did that too - I wasn't allowed junk, there wasn't junk in the house, so I'd get it elsewhere and hide it. Ironically my little brother, who was born 15 years after me, has access to junk like sugary cereals and stuff, but he doesn't obsess about it like I did - I wanted it soooooo bad. I remember having lucky charms at my friend's house as a kid and thinking it was the best thing in the world.
I definitely have trouble with this too, especially if I go to a restaurant. I feel so guilty paying for a "normal" portion, when I know I won't be eating much of it. I do try to take the left overs home, but some just don't reheat well, or if I am not going home right away, I don't want it rotting in my car. My husband says "you ate what you could and what you needed, thats all that matters" He is totally ok with me throwing it out... I think it is just something we have to get used to !!

I do too - sometimes I order an appetizer even though I don't want it instead of ordering the full plate of what I actually want. We've started each ordering a salad and then sharing an entree (when we can agree on one, and that helps somewhat - it also makes the meal a lot cheaper!) Some things just don't reheat - or even worse just didn't taste all that good to begin with so why would you want to reheat it?
Your husband sounds like a very sensible and understanding man :)
