We saw watermelon at the grocery store - it was $7 for one melon, no way!  Now that things are growing we are going to start visiting the farmers markets on Tues and/or Thurs for some of our produce.  Its so expensive in the stores, and you get fresher stuff and support the local farmers when you go to the market.  Yum. Well it was a very good week in terms of weight loss.  I seem to be holding with the pattern of really only losing for about one week every month, and that was last week.  Starting weight - 440 Surgery weight - 405 Last week - 293.6 This week -  287.6 (-6 lbs) I am still holding out hope that I'll be under 280 by the time we leave for Boston on Jun 1.  Its definitely nice to wave the 290s goodbye - next stop BMI UNDER 50.  Woohoo!

Look at you, Miss 287.6.  I remember your recent posts about how long was it going to take you to get under 300, and now look at you.  It makes an OH peep proud Kellie

Well it took for freaking ever to get under 300.  I am pleased to see the scale moving again - I am at least getting used to this pattern and not freaking out when I don't lose for 2 or 3 weeks.

Hi, Marge!  Girl, you have to be careful when you're out working in the yard, even when it's overcast; next time, slather on some sunscreen before you head out to mow the back 40!!!   I'm posting a fabulous cabbage recipe from a friend of mine; it's like cabbage rolls without all the work (well, it involves some prep work, but not as much as actually rolling the cabbage).  He does this in the crockpot and it's delicious.   And here's my numbers for the week:  Beginning weight:  396 Surgery weight:  386 Last week:  197 This week:  192.2

ALAN’S UNSTUFFED CABBAGE

Make small meatballs from:

1 lb ground beef

1 lb ground turkey

½ cup bread crumbs (or: 2 slices bread, cubed)

¼ cup raw rice

2 onions, grated

3 carrots, grated

1 tsp salt

½ tsp pepper

½ tsp ground sage

1 lb sauerkraut, from bag

Cut medium/large head of cabbage into pieces not more than 2 inches square (amount of cabbage determined by the size of the vessel – I like a lot, and it cooks way down).

Make sauce by combining:

2 -28 oz cans crushed tomatoes

6 oz tomato paste

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup white sugar

1/3 cup wine vinegar

[Optional: chopped onion, raisins, caraway seed]

Put ½ cup water in vessel, then layer cabbage and meatballs.  Pour sauce on top.  [Water is added first to prevent ingredients from burning during initial boil.  Sauce added on top because it would otherwise burn during boil – don’t worry though: the sauce will trickle down and blend nicely with everything]

Bring to boil and pressure cook on high for 25 minutes, then depressurize naturally for about 20 minutes.  [On top of stove, bring to boil, turn heat down and simmer 2 hours or so.  May also be made in crock pot for 8 – 10 hours.]

Cool.  Skim off fat as possible.  Reheat to serve.  This is best the next day.  Freezes well.  Enjoy!
