Just discovered this bored!! Well I didn't even discover it really, someone sent me a message (thank you) I usually just go to the RNY bored, but I am so happy to have been told about this one!  A little bit about me. I had my RNY on Decemeber 18,2007. I started my journey at a wopping 419 lbs! I was only 26! But   now I am extrmremly excited to say at 4 1/2 moths I am actually UNDER 300 ! I about fell out when I saw the scale was in the 2's !! I couldn't belive how quick it happened!! I defanlty have not been perfect- i have had a soda or two had fried foods. But I dont have these things often and actually I am actually starting to not want these things! I have been soda free for 2 whole weeks now!! And I bring my lunch to work and I lost 12 lbs in one week!! So I am all excited about my weight loss again! The last two months I only lost 15 ! I can't wait till I weigh on  the 18 to see how much I lost this month! What I wanted to know is people who are as large as I am, do  they loose quicker for longer? Yes, I know everything is individual, ha ha. I hate that answer! Someone somewhere has got to have some statitics about people 400 plus! I want to know what is average for different weight ranges !! ~sarah

I'm so glad you joined us!  When I see people on the RNY board now I try to invite them here!  We are a big happy family (excuse the pun) You'll see all kinds of responses to your question here.  I started at 371 and next wednesday is my 6 month and I've lost 83 pounds so far.  I was  hoping for 100 by six months, but I'm happy with where I am right now.  It's just a number.  I work out 5 days a week and my trainer says the number on the scale doesn't matter because I'm replacing fat with muscle that works better and uses more calories so that makes me happy. Don't worry about how fast or slow you are losing.  All you need to focus on is following the rules that your Doc set out for you for long term success and you'll be fine.

Welcome!  How exciting to hear about your great success since your surgery.  Being pre-op, I appreciate hearing people that are less than 6 months out and already comfortable with the adjustments they had to make.

Congratulations on getting under 300!  I was very happy to do that recently also.  And yes, it is all individual, but people who start larger tend to take longer to lose down to their goal (and their goal is usually a little higher too).  Right at first you may lose faster because you have to burn more calories just to function, but later on it seems to even out for a lot of people.  Also, some people's bodies are just slower than others - so far it sounds like you've got a quick one :)  I started at 440, 405 at surgery, and it took 8 months to get under 300 so you are ahead of me!  I think I lose a little slowly, but about its about average really. Welcome to the board :)  I hope you continue to post here - we have regular weigh-ins every Monday if you wish to join in.  We also have daily gym posts on week days, where you can list your exercise and ask question if you want, and/or a daily food post if you wish to record what you are eating or see what your cohorts are eating.  Finally I think Estelle is going to start a recipe thread every Thurs if you want to share a recipe or get new ones.  All the best, Jenn

Hi Sarah,  Nice to meet you and glad to see you here too.   I'm fairly new myself and don't post a whole lot but trying to do more.  I'm still preop and doing the six month supervised diet for my insurance.  Got one month down now.   Your weight loss has been great!  I can't wait to be there myself...especially under 300 lbs.   Linda

I am pre-op, but thank you for joining us and sharing your story.  I am currently 409, and trying to lose before my surgery.  It is so wonderful for me to read your story and know that there is hope for me!  I wish I could be of help to you but I can be supportive!  Keep up the great work and I wish for you continued SUCCESS!!!!

Welcome, and how exciting that you were able to have this lifesaving surgery at such a young age.  Now, you have your whole life ahead of you and you can look forward to a healthier lifestyle.  Isn't it great! As for losing weight, my weight came off pretty steady for a year, then slowed down, and now I'm hovering around 215 lbs.  I want to get below 200, but I think it's going to require a more rigid and structured food plan than I'm currently using.  Some of my remaining weight is hanging skin and fat, too.  The weight can always come off, it just takes more work farther out.  Also, I'm 50 years old, so that could have something to do with it.  Younger folks lose weight easier than those of us who were around when the Earth was still cooling. Have you started any kind of exercise yet?  Exercise is an important adjunct to weight loss, and helps alleviate stress, which can cause emotional eating. Kix

Thanks for all the respones!! When my body isn't acting up this is what i try an do as far as exercises. Mon/Wed/Fri "serious business" cardio. IE 2 hrs on  the eliptical! Tues/Thurs/Sat 30-45 min cardio warm up then weights!! But I have been a little under the weather! My potassium is CRAZY right now and I think for the first time in my life I am constipated!! But hopefully it will be all over soon .... ie all my problems fix so i can get back to the gym!! i have to meet with my dr in July and I would like to be 250 by then so i need to hit the gym!! I am at 297 now ... so a little less than 5- to go and 1 1/2 months to do it :)
