I'm not surprised that the ellipticals don't work well for shorter folks.  When I see folks on them at the gym who are either pretty short or pretty tall, they just look awkward and uncomfortable, like the machine just isn't the right size for them.  But at least you have other options for cardio that are more comfortable!!!!   By the way, do the ellipticals at your gym have adjustable inclines?  I'm more comfortable on the ellipticals that have adjustable inclines.  I've used ellipticals where the only thing that's adjustable is the resistance, and I don't like them at all.  The motion just isn't comfortable or natural, especially when compared to the Precor machines at my gym with the adjustable incline...  Anyway, just curious.   Have a great workout today!!! No I don't think they have adjustable incline even though they are nice new nautilus machines.

Dunny, when I use the elliptical, I only do the leg portion, I don't use the arm levers.  I had a hard time at first, but I find now that doing brief sessions on the elliptical is actually improving the range of motion on my knees and strengthening my quads.  It does take time to build up to it, and since I didn't do any formal exercise most of last week, I'm only able to do 6-7 minutes again on the elliptical right now. I had a really hard time when I first started the elliptical.  My feet still go numb, but I adjust my feet to point out several times during the workout and that helps a bunch. Like I said, when I first started, I did 6 minutes and thought I was going to die, but I prefer it now to the treadmill.  We have 4 different versions of ellipticals and I have my favorite because the range of motion seems more comfortable than the others.   Switch back to the treadmill for a while and then try the elliptical again.

Morning Kix, I did 1 hour of hard cardio at the pool today.  It's so nice to be able to workout!  I'm going to miss that when I'm recovering.

Jennie, glad to hear you're back in the pool.  I keep forgetting to ask whether you and your mom had a good time at Quilt College?  Also, what day are you having your hysterectomy? Kix

We did have a good time - there was SO much to see, and the quilts were beautiful! We also loved Nashville, and would like to go again and spend more time.  I'd really like to take some of the civil war tours. I have surgery next Wednesday - May 7th.

I had a heck of a time getting going today.  I took Tylenol PM last night and, as usual when I take the stuff, was up and down all night dying for snacks.  I'm glad I used up the last of it, I just don't need it in the house. Anyway, I eventually did get to the rec center and squeezed in 25 minutes of uphill treadmill (11% incline) for 25 minutes, burning 230 calories.  I worked up a good sweat, too.  Immediately after treadmill, I went to aquacise for one hour.  The pool was extra hot today (94 degrees) -- what I really wanted was an adult beverage and a nice soak, but the teacher made us work.  I'm glad, it was good to stretch everything out after treadmill.
