More surgery for me?

After months of terrible pelvic pain, I went to a new female OB GYN this week. She was wonderful, what a huge difference, and I've always liked my male OB GYN, he was really sweet, but she and I just clicked, she understood. She sent me to have 2 ultrasounds done (internal and external) to check for any fibroids or any other strange things. None were found. She did find I have a prolapsed uterus that's causing my pain. More than likely another side effect from loosing so much weight. What was once held up by all the fat is no longer being supported like it was. So it looks as though I'm headed soon for a partial hysterectomy. At least she will be able to leave my ovaries so no hormone replacement will be needed. UGH!

Ugh that sucks about the hysterectomy, I'm sorry!  I'm glad you found a great ob-gyn.  I had a female one for a while, the same one all my family uses and I just didn't care for her.  My family raves about the lady (she delivered my brother and performed my aunt's full hysterectomy, among many other things) but she was extremely hateful to me about my weight.  I left her office crying more than once before I finally wiped my hands of her.  Now I have a very nice male doc (who looks like a 12 y/o boy) and he is fine but I definitely don't have that kind of rapport with him.  I've never really had a doc like that.  My family doc is so busy he barely remembers who I am each time I come in, and my surgeon is... a surgeon.  We've had a rough time of it.  Anyway, hopefully this resolves the pain and its good you get to keep your ovaries.  My aunt had them removed (her hysterectomy was for ovarian cancer) - she was not quite 40 at the time, and she's been a total B___ since.  She doesn't take her hormones and she is MOODY and unhappy.  I wish she'd take them but you can only bug someone about it so much and point out all the reasons to take them so many times before you give up and let them be miserable.  Wish you the best!!

I'm glad you clicked with the new doc, and that she was able to figure out what's going on.  Hopefully the partial hysterectomy will bring you some much needed relief -  Kellie

it's so nice that you've found a doctor that you actually like! congrats on that. i had a hysterectomy 10 yrs ago. the first surgeon i was sent to for that was horrible to me, and flat out said i was too fat to have surgery, and made some other uncalled for comments regarding women who haven't had children (like it's an obligation to use that uterus for reproduction!).  so i had an endometrial ablation -- which didn't solve my problems. then i was sent to another surgeon and he was WONDERFUL. and totally disagreed with the jerk that said i was too fat for surgery. and the surgery went fine and solved my problems. i too, kept my ovaries. and i surely don't miss the monthly blood-fests i had endured for far too long. hope it all works out for you. deb

Well I gotta say that sucks about the surgery! And on the other hand i'm glad you found out what was going on. MY younger sister has to have the same surgery but she has been putting it off for a couple years.   My old OB GYN had pictures of male models on his ceiling!! lol  That was a little strange lol  Estelle

My old OB GYN had the male models on the ceiling too, until one person complained! I thought it was a nice distraction! I've had 5 or 6 DNC's over the years to stop bleeding, never been able to have kids, and will be 47 next month. This doesn't really bother me. I just don't want to deal with all the hospital stuff... again! The year after WLS I was in the hospital 6 times and that sucked. I've had my share of nasty becasue I'm fat Dr's over the years. I now know they work for me, if I don't like them, I fire them and find someone I like. She did tell me if all goes well I'll only be in a day or two at the most. Thanks for the good wishes, I'll let you guys know when I get a date.

I think I have the same problem as you.  I hope this will actually help with your pain.   I had an awful experience with an GYN and he basically told me I was too fat and to lose weight and that would solve my problems.  He acted like he was disgusted to touch me.  So, I didn't have my annual physical for 7 years. I found a new doc, female, and she was very understanding.  I actually had to wait months to see her because she's so busy and by the time my appointment came, I had my period, bad!  I called the office to see what they wanted me to do and they told me to come it.  Needless to say the exam was a total mess, but she was great.  She couldn't get a good check on everything because of my size and scheduled me for an ultrasound 2 weeks later.  She later told me that I had PCOS and that explained alot.  It's nice to have doctors who understand. I too am planning on having the uterine ablation, and I hope that helps with the bleeding! Good luck Jan!  Keep us posted.

I've also had evil experiences with OB-GYNs (one was a female who kept saying she couldn't feel anything because of my fat, and she pushed on me so hard that it hurts like H#LL).  Happily, my PCP does my female exams, and she's very kind and doesn't use the speculum like she's jacking up a car to change a flat tire. Sorry to hear about the hysterectomy.  I don't know how old you are, but lately, my ovaries have started waving at me to let me know that menopause is likely to commence any day now.  I have had a couple of mild "summers" and at first I thought I was dumping, but then I realized I hadn't eaten anything.  ARGH. Kix, I'm 46 will be 47 next month.  I think I'm going to write a note to the DR the day of surgery and place it near my vajayjay telling her not to forget the tummy tuck if she has time ... lol!
