Sorry the gym is opening late this morning.  I ate two SF pudding cups in a row last night and they made me dump, so I had to lie down.  I guess I enjoyed lying down so much that I fell asleep (granted, it was late, but still...) Anyway, the gym is open.  I need to go to the gym for formal exercise today.  On the other hand, it is supposed to be in the 80s today and I feel a strong urge to go walking outside and forego the gym. Decisions, decisions! What did you do to move your body today? Kix

Karen, this has nothing to do with exercise, but I keep meaning to ask:  How was the wedding? Kix

Hey, better late than never, eh?  I appreciate your keeping the gym open -  I'm totally struggling with the gym vs. outdoor exercise.  I burn a LOT more calories doing cardio at the gym (about 500 calories/hour) than I do when I walk or ride my bike (about 170 calories/hour).  And I have full compression of the cartilage in my knee joints, so I don't want to run for fear of making the compression worse (or at least causing it to compress more quickly than it will if I don't take up running).  So I choose between the satisfaction of the higher calorie burn or enjoying being outdoors - sigh.   For today anyway, I plan to do my lower body strength training and core work at lunch, then yoga after work.  Since yoga will be done earlier than my usual evening workout, maybe I'll go for a walk in my neighborhood after I get home -  Kellie

I enjoy keeping the gym open, it helps me a great deal and I think giving back is important when so many have helped me along the way. I see great minds think alike.  I struggled with indoors vs. outdoors today.  Outdoors won.  It was worth it, I had a wonderful time and the sun provided nourishing Vitamin D. Kix

I am going to TRY an hour on the treadmill tonight - 30min, then a small arm circuit, then 30 more minutes.  I make it to 2 miles regularly now, so my next goal is to increase from 45-50min to an hour.

I was reading something online where they want you to do 1-2 minutes of killer cardio, then run to a weight machine and do reps, then run back to the cardio and do 1-2 minutes, etc.  I'm pretty sure I'd trip and kill myself running from cardio to weights.  I do 20-30 minutes of cardio, then my circuits (on the days I do circuits), and then finish up with 10-15 minutes of elliptical (mostly because I like how my knees seem more flexible after doing elliptical). Do you get bored being on the treadmill so long?  My mind starts to drift from the music after about 30 minutes. Kix

Actually, no I find it rather calming, sort of zen.  For the first little while I am tense and still thinking about everything in my life - my mind is not a fun place to be, its very busy and disjointed.  Then I start to relax and go sort of blank and the next 20min or so I jus****ch the numbers on the treadmill and sort of zone out.  Its peaceful.  Or I watch tv, they have them attached to each cardio machine.  I don't really actively listen to my music, I use it more to block out all the other noise and just sort of add to the calming.  If I switched back and forth between cardio and weights every few minutes I would trip and crack my head open because they are on two different levels with stairs in between.

I did my total body strength training today.  Skipped a few exercises because I was running behind, but I increased on my biceps exercises and added a new triceps exercise to the routine.   Maybe the extra muscle I will build will help with all that jiggly fat on the back of my arms.   For all of you who are debating on exercise inside or exercise outside, I would opt for the gym and grab the machine near the window!  Hopefully you have a window at your gym.  Our cardio area has tons of windows and  there's about 6 machines to take advantage of the beautiful weather and all the flowers blooming!
