Oh, Boy!

Went to the Boomer Job Fair today.  I knew there were lots of Boomers, but I didn't expect them to all show up at the job fair.  It was packed.  In chatting up folks who were waiting in line with me to get in, most were there just testing the waters. The fair itself was disappointing.  Lots of truck driving jobs, bus driving jobs, and casino jobs that pay $9/hour.  I did speak to someone at Jeffco Public Health, who was enthused about my skills and suggested I speak to the Jeffco HR rep.  I did, and she said, "We have no public health openings right now."  THBBBBBPT!   Kaiser was also there, and all they had to say was, "Check our web site for job openings."  I wish there was an emoticon showing the middle finger, I'd use it.  I already know how to check web sites for job openings, why even bother to show up if that's all you are going to tell job seekers?  Oy. Anyway, after about 1.5 hours of that nonsense, I came home to change clothes so I can go to the Botanic Garden for free day.  I changed my clothes, grabbed my protein drinks, and was heading out the door when I noticed the phone message light was blinking.  I checked the message, and it's a call from HRSA here in Denver.  I applied for a gig months ago (it's a good gig, I want it very badly) and they want to interview me!  I called the dude right back and got his voice mail, so now I'm sitting here at home waiting for him to call me back.  Hopeful Kix

Yeah on the possible interview! I had the same problem at my school's job fair. One company told me to just check their website (well, duh) and another didn't have any positions, at all. Why in the world did they decide to go to a job fair? Common sense is a lost art.

Kix, I gotta tell ya Job fairs are a big way to get Company's out in the community. Think about all the free advertising that comes out of having your company in a JOB fair? i'm sure there are several company's there that need employees but its also about being in the public eye.  Congrats on the possible interview and the ones that had no position for you ? they didn't have a position for anyone lol Estelle
