Need Reality Check...4 Months Out

Hi All, I need your help.  I need a reality check on what I'm eating now that I'm 4 months out (TODAY!)  I think I'm in a stall or major slow down...but I'm losing inches like crazy.  I bought a new pair of demin capris and within a few days they were bagging and sagging.  So here's what I ate yesterday... 4 oz. Activia yogurt (light)             70 cal               5 protein Slice of Muenster cheese             80                    5 2 oz turkey breast                       60                     11 2 slices Muenster cheese            160                    10 ****ep yogurt, cheese and meat at work for breakfast and lunch...the same everyday) 1 slice of Pizza Hut pan pizza        400                    19    Meat Lover's    Xtra Cheese (Got nutrition info from website; my piece was very small compared to the other slices so I doubt I actually had the above numbers.  Pizza is a once in great while treat)                                       TOTAL: 770                 50 Don't freak about my protein levels.  My NUT's rule is 10 g of protein for every month out - so my requirement is 40 grams of protein a day right now.   I'm getting my vitamins in, though I'm struggling with my water.  I'm doing good to get 40 oz in and I'm not peeing much.  My assessment is low water and probably too high of sodium from the cheese (::cry::) Today's menu is the same, except for dinner will be a hamburger patty (3 oz - 4 oz) with ketchup and a bit of mayo. I'm rarely hungry and I'm feeling good.  Any suggestions? Thank you! P.S. At my 3 month checkup I had lost 77 lbs.  The doctor predicts that I'll be down another 70 or so by 6 months...though at this rate I'm none too sure about that!!!

From your post, it looks like you are doing great for the most part.  Pizza = not great choice, but once in a while is alright.  You may be right that bumping up your daily fluid intake may help get things moving again.  Too little fluids and too much sodium = fluid retention!  Can you find some other ways to get in fluids?  Sugar-free popsicles are 2 liquid ounces, so can help a little.  Are you struggling because your full all the time, or are you having a hard time adjusting to sipping throughout the day?  Depending on what the problem is, perhaps someone can offer more suggestions about fluids.

At 4 months out, don't worry about the stall.  When we lose so much weight in a short period of time, our body just sometimes needs a "time out."  It's very confused about what's going on and every once in a while it's just going to pause, take stock, then move on.  I tended to have stalls every 6-8 weeks after about 6 months.  I just kept doing the right things and the stall would eventually break.  I think a lot of folks will tell you the same thing...   So keep focusing on the protein, work on bumping up the fluids, and take those vitamins.  You don't mention exercise; anything going on there???

I'm probably not the best person to give what to eat advice . But i can tell ya that I had a similar experience with loss of sizes without the loss of weight at one point.  And we all have stalls BLAH BLAH I know lol  I did notice that  I lose better when I drink more, I'm a bad drinker soemtimes I really have to make sure I get my water it doesn't come even close to natural for me,  Good luck you seem to be doing really well!!!!!  Estelle

I'm a cheese eater almost daily - love it, funny thing I didn't like it before surgery! I don't see anything wrong with what your eating other than you really should up the fluids. I noticed everytime I'd push the water I'd loose more. If your following the rules given you, then your doing fine in my book. We all have different eating plans set before us. I wish at 4 months I could eat pizza! OK, well not really, sure sounds good though. At 21 months I still can't eat more than one full slice(minus the crust) or I get sick, usually I pick the toppings off instead. I think I've had it 3 times since surgery.  I do make meatcrust pizza and it's super yummy. 77 pounds is wonderful, keep up the good work and remember about the stall ... This too shall pass!

Thank you all!  This water thing is crazy...before surgery, I could drink 100 oz a day NO PROBLEM.  Now, it just doesn't interest me.  I'm not a fan of flavored waters...water is supposed to taste like water!  Early out I did try Crystal Light and SF Kool-Aid, but the splenda sweetness got to me.  Not a fan of tea or coffee.  So I'll just keep sip, chug, chug, sip, sip, sip, chug, chug away.  I do, however, like Big Train LC Hot Chocolate....maybe that will do the trick to help. Thank you!

Water didn't settle well for me for 5-6 months easy.  I had to add lemon or lime to it in order to be able to drink comfortably.  As for everything else, protein first, drink your water, stalls happen.  Pretty much the others said.  If you ever want specific nutrition input for a few days post in calorie countdown and I'm sure we can give you suggestions.  I'd also suggest looking at http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ for wls friendly recipes.  Some of her stuff is REALLY good.

One more fluid suggestion -- Propel with Calcium.  Like you, I didn't really care for water during the first few months after surgery.  But I could handle room-temperature Propel, liked the flavor, plus each 16.9 oz. bottle has 20% of the daily RDA for calcium.  Since we need so much calcium anyway, I figured it couldn't hurt!  I still drink the stuff daily - it's my favorite beverage.  Well, next to my non-fat sugar-free vanilla lattes... {{{{{hugs}}}}} Kellie

One suggestion about the fluids.  Crystal light is too sweet for me too.  The little packets are supposed to be for 16.9 oz but I add one to 24 oz and it's just right for me.  I've never been one to like super sweet drinks either.  Just a little flavor. If you like pizza, I would suggest South Beach diet pizzas.  they are really good, have good fiber and 30 g of protein.  They are good in a pinch for me.    I'm not a big cheese eater and never have been.  It's like I'm lactose intolerant with cheese only. Good luck and keep up the excellent work.
