I am so excited! I started on this journey over 2 years ago and because of job and insurance changes I finally got the go ahead from the insurance and saw the surgeon this morning! My new life begins May 27th at 9:30 am!! Dr Makami wants me to go on modified liquid till the surgery so I can lose the max before the Big Day. I was supposed to use the HMR sold by the hospital but they are super expensive. 32.00 for a box of 18 and they are Gross!! So I talked to my nut and she said I could use Slim Fast so I went to Kroger and got store brand for 8.00 for a box of 12 and they taste decent!!! Dr wants me to lose about 30lbs in the next 6 weeks. Also because of my weight I have been using a scooter when I go out and he said NO MORE! I understand and want to do anything to improve my health and my chances. I think tomorrow I am going to look into getting a walker because I am a little wobbely and that is why I started using the scooter. Anyway back to the beginning!! Woo Hoo!! Yipee!! Yea!!

This will be a day that you remember for a while.  Then there will be more days that will take the place of that memory.  The day that you can walk without the walker; they day you can wear an outfit that's been tucked into the back of your closet for a while; the day you lose 50 pounds or 100 pounds; and many many more!  Congratulations

Fabulous, congrats!  If you get tired of slim fast the atkins advantage are decent, I used them before surgery (except caramel its super nasty).  Also, myoplex rtds are good, all I can stand since surgery.  They are a little too sweet sometimes though.  I was told not to use slim fast because it was too high in sugar, but every doctor is different.  Best of luck getting ready, and be careful walking, take it slow and just do a little more each day - the last thing you want to do is have a fall or injure yourself in any way.  I am so excited for you, yay!

I looked up the nutrition stuff and your right. I guess all things that are allowed are not the best. I guess I'm going back to icky HMR. I just ordered some sf flavors from DaVinci's to doctor it up.

Well, no matter what you do it will be lower cal than your normal diet so you will lose weight.  Maybe you can alternate.  I was just suggesting some other brands if you got tired of slim fast.  I bet the syrups will help, and sometimes putting them over ice or blending them with ice really improves the taste.

Congrats, Linda!  You've had a long haul to get to this point, but it will be worth it in the end.   If you have questions about managing the liquid diet, there's a number of folks on this board who had to do something similar, so they may be able to offer some insight/suggestions about what to expect, how to cope, etc.  The more weight you can lose before surgery, the easier and safer is will be for your surgeon to operate, so just keep telling yourself that when the liquids get boring/tough!!!   Good luck on your continuing journey -  Kellie
