WORST NIGHT OF MY LIFE

4-9-08 Worst night of my life!

Okay so the day before yesterday I found out I was going to have a sleep study, which is short notice but okay, I can be on board with that.

I first need to say my family is always there my sweet, supportive sister took Spencer over night so Alan did not have to take vaction time, we are trying to save as much vaction as possiable so we have have nice vaction times this summer, "So Kelly if you are reading this thanks with all my heart"

Okay so I went into the sleep study last night and it was Horriable, awful, stressful, and nothing I have ever expeienced in my LIFE,  now for all of you that know me well, I have had some major health problems in my life and there has been times I have been scared, so sick and some time felt like I might even die, but I HAVE NEVER FELT SO MUCH ANXIETY AND JUST A FEELING I CANT EVEN DESCRIBE THEN I DID LAST NIGHT.  It was BAD REALLY BAD, I WONT GET INTO IT, BUT THE NURSING STAFF WAS HORRIABLE,  I smailed in this picture because I was allowed my ambeim and it was the only time the whole day yesterday and last night that I felt a little relaxed and that I might get some sleep, WELL THAT WAS SHORT LIVED.  You know its kinda crazy you would think after all my surgerys and procedures I have had in my life this would be a cake walk, NOTTTTTTTTTTT!   Man I needed to vent, I feel like I could just ball, and I dont want to be negitive and " Scream someone out"  But I am not going to get treated like I did and not say something, so I will be contacting my doctors tomorrow, I just couldn’t do it today, been so thankful I have been home, its amazing I got home at 7:45 am and Alan picked up Spencer then went to the hospital cause i left my pillow there and he got home at 8:15 am and I was in the shower and when I got out and saw him I just wraped my arms around him and cryed and cryed, and Spencer begged to go lay in his bed so that aloud me to lay down and its amazing when I layed down next to my spouse and he put is arm around me how safe, comfortable, and how fast I fell asleep.

I felt like sharing with you this because some of the hardest things in life can be the easyest and the things you would think would be a peice of cake are a nightmare!

Love you all! Kristy

Hmm, I have to have one of these soon. May I ask what exactly was so bad about it? I'm a little freaked out now. :(

Sorry I didn't mean to freak you or anyone out, The nurses, well one nurse was very abusive, I even got hit witht he pillow, it was a nightmare, they wouldn't let me have more then one blanket, they would let me have more then one pillow she came in and said If I have to tell you one more time not to move that other pillow over I might, and then she stoped, well I guess I moved it again and she came in hit me with the pillow and said I just must have to treat you like a child because you wont do what I say and she took the other pillow out of the room, my doctors orders said let me sleep on my stomach the nurse would not let me,  every time I tryed to roll on my stomach she came flying in the room and said, you better get on your side or back, and it when on and on and on, the nice nurse that went home at 12:30 put the wires in one at a time, and the nurse that was there all night grabed all the wires at one time and yanked when she woke me up, even causing bleeding on my scalp and by my eye, I said ouch when she riped the tape off my legs and she called me a puss and said " you have had gastric bypass and your worried about a little yanking of some tape" Then she said can you corroperate please, I would like to go home,  I thinking in my head is this normal behavior fom a nurse, no bed side manor at all.  It went on and on and on, it was just bad.. I opted to have this done  I did not need it 5 months ago for this Gastric bypass because I was trying to get everything taken care of because my deductable has been met, who knows!  Maybe all even have to pay for this horriable night,  I will go to sleep in my perfectly lovely bed here in a few mins.  Kristy

Hi there Kristy I can't believe you had this experience .. being a nurse I hate to hear stories of when nurses behave like this. I truely hope you complained to the nurse manager better yet, you should report her to the state board. Not sure who they are in the USA but it's the place who issues the nursing licenses. In Canada (Ontario) it's called the College of Nurses.  I really hope that nothing ever happens to you or anyone else like this. That nurse must be reprimanded for her actions no doubt about it. Please report her. Lisa ps: I hope you were able to catch up on your sleep when you got home.

Im so sorry this happened to you. When i did mine they told me to sleep like i would at home so with 2 pillows and on my belly.. These kind of people need to be reported so they can be stopped. Enjoy your own bed sweetie and remember there is no place like home... hugs

Kristy, The nurse's behavior is unacceptable, unprofessional, and uncalled for.  In addition to reporting her to your doctor's office, I would encourage you to call back to the unit where your test was done and report this behavior to the supervisor/manager.  The only way they know that nurses are mistreating patients is if the patients tell them.  Additionally, the only way for hospitals to terminate this kind of person is with well-documented histories of their behaviors.  So if you are comfortable doing so, I would encourage you to report this (in writing, perhaps with a copy to your state's board of nursing, if you know the nurse's full name).   I'm so sorry this was such a traumatic experience for you; most of the time, sleep tests are very simple and straightforward.  I hope you have a better day today -  Kellie

oh my you sooooooo need to report that. First report it to their supervisor and then your Doctor and last your insurance company so maybe they will stop refering people there. Nobody should be treated like that. I am glad your home and hope you got a good night sleep!!!!!!

Kristy, I red both your posts and I am so sorry you experienced what I call the worst of the worst in my profession. *****es like that make us look bad. I would never dream of treating another human being like she did. You HAVE TO report her and give every detail. Get her ass fired.  I hate it when people have miserable lives so they take it out on the people they are providing service too.  My feeling is...if you hate your job that much...friggin QUIT!  Do us all a favor!  My sleep study was a very nice experience...I had to go twice before WLS and once 11 yrs ago to another hospital. Each experience was pleasant and the staff were all very friendly & helpful.  They even let DH camp out in the TV room on the sofa....gave him a pillow & blanket too....so he wouldn't have to drive so far to go back home only to come back in 6 hours.  I had all the pillows I wanted and slept in any position I was comfortable in.  Thank God your DH was able to comfort you.  Let us know what happens as a result of reporting that SNOT!  MAJOR HUGS  Jeanine

Kaiser sends you home with an APAP that records your sleep information.  You take it home, sleep, then return it the next day and they interpret the results.  Much cheaper for them, and better for the patient, who most likely sleeps more comfortably at home than in a sleep lab. Kix
