Input Needed - Rehab Facilities?
Hi all,
Does anyone have any personal experience with any of the rehab facilities that specialize in the needs of the morbidly obese? Whether you were a patient, knew a patient or are familiar with the environment, all input is appreciated. The specific facilities that I am inquiring about are:
Brookhaven Rehab and Health Center - Far Rockaway, NY
Andover Village Retirement Community - Andover, OH
Avalon Gardens Rehab and Health Center - Smithtown, NY
Berkshire Health Systems - Pittsfields, MA
Duke University Diet and Fitness Center - Raleigh, NC (not quite the same, but interested in feedback on their program also).
Thanks in advance!

Well no......I've seen brookhaven Rehab on TV.....they use to (or perhaps they still do) have a show on Discovery health...it use to **** me off to no end though, because they never recommened WLS as a solution to morbid obesity.
There are some post op RNYers who are on the forums that went through Dukes surgical WLS program...i'm sure you could post and ask about it.

I don't have any personal or anecdotal information about any of these programs, sorry

A few years back, my shrink was encouraging me to try Duke. At that time, my insurance didn't cover that sort of thing, and I thought I could develop my own program at home. HA! Boy, that worked well.. not.
At the time I looked into Duke, it appeared they didn't provide a residence facility, so you had to find a short term apartment. I also recall that while the apartments were close by normal fit person standards, it was too far for my fat self to walk. More do-able if I still lived in Pa. and could drive to Duke too, but I'm in Oregon now. Anyway, that's all I have to contribute - not much and outdated info. LOL.
Brookhaven I've just seen on TV.
