Fun at the Grocery Store

I stopped at the grocery store after my workout today because I needed to cash in my lotto ($50!) and buy a new lotto scratcher.  I bought my Starbucks venti decaf and headed to the lotto scratcher machine.  A woman was standing there waiting for assistance because her dollar bill jammed the bill receptor. We struck up a conversation, and at one point, she asked me, "What is the condition you have on your legs?"  I heard her the first time, but I decided I wanted her to say it again, so I said, "I'm sorry?"  She repeated her question. Now, most of you know that I have these two huge thighs, called Thigantor and Thigantorina.  I have not lost as much weight in my thighs as I have on other parts of my body, so my thighs are out of proportion with the rest of me.  (It's not lymphedema or lipodema or anything other than lots o'fat and hanging skin). So, I told her, "It's called, I lost over 300 lbs and it's all hanging fat and skin that needs to be surgically removed."   That stopped her dead... for about two seconds, then she wanted to know how I lost so much weight.  I told her I had WLS (I'm not shy about it).  We talked some more, and she said, "I weigh 203 lbs and I hate it."  I told her I weigh not much more than that and for the most part, I'm pretty happy about it." It has been awhile since someone actually asked me to my face about some fat part of my body.  I thought those days were over.  Sigh.  It didn't ruin my day, but I am a bit annoyed by it.  I wear leggings most of the time and they are form fitting, but I shouldn't have to wear palazzo pants just because my thighs are bigger than most kindergarteners. I can't believe someone actually had the nerve to ask you that! That would have really ticked me off!!

I would love to have see her face when you responded to her!   I'd have probably been evil and told her is was some contagious disease just because she pointed it out.  

wow. the nerve of complete strangers just amazes me.  i'm glad her crap didn't ruin your day, kix...and you can wear any damn kind of pants you want. deb

Some people have the tact and decorum of a gnat.  What is it that makes people think it's okay to ask about another person's body parts?  Frankly it's none of their darn business.  Didn't their mama teach them any better???? I'm so bad that I'd probably make up some crazy story about how I have some rare medical condition....  Either that or I'd ask where they'd had their hair plugs done or if they knew there were creams they could use to get rid of that unwanted facial hair...  Me?  Mean streak?  Nah... You keep wearing those leggings girl, and wear them proudly!  Do not let someone else's social ineptitude and stupidity affect your outlook; she definitely is not worth it -  Kellie

Nice way to celebrate a $50.00 win! Your story reminds meof how much we (pre and postWLS) persons have to endure-even when it isn't daily. I would love one thin person to have to bear so much personal daily scrutiny and not be affected.

Ya know, people just **** me off when they do that stuff! I usually try to do something like ' OH MY GOD!!!!! Where did that come from?  Thank you for letting me know that my legs aren't normal!!!!!!  Do you know how long I could have walked around like this if you didn't let me know?" Usually they are so embarrassed they shut up.  Then I like to follow up with something like....You should really choose your words before you allow them to leave your lips. Battle on, Kix....we are here with you.  All soldiers fighting the same enemy.  We will win!!!!

at 418 pounds I were shorts yes I do because it is hot here in the desert and I am not going to be uncomfortable because of what someone else thinks what I should look like you keep wearing your leggings. And next time someone is rude like that to you ask them if they were brought up to be rude or were the just that gifted?? You are my inspiration and I have seen your pictures and I think you are lovely.
