It's a good day!

I got my authorization yesterday from Priority Health (my ins) to go to MMPC for the evaluation, etc.  Today I called and made my first four appointments!  I have my history/physical & first psych eval on 4/15.  My first appt with the surgeon (Dr. Foote) and the 2nd psych eval is on 4/28.

I am very anxious obviously for all of them!!!  Any thoughts on what I should expect at any of the appointments?  I am thinking my husband will go with me to the history/physical and appt with Dr. Foote.  The woman I scheduled my appt’s with said he could go to the psych evals as well, but I don’t know if I want him to go with me to those as well.  I wouldn’t mind if he was there, but I am not sure if he can get a half day off for the appointments since they are back to back.

Hi, Kelly, and congrats on getting your initial appointments set up; one more step down on your journey!   In terms of what to expect, questions to ask, etc., I'd suggest checking out the "Learn" section of the OH home page at http://www.obesityhelp.com/.  This area has a lot of great information about the types of weight loss surgeries, what to expect, questions to ask your surgeon, etc.  It's a great resource and something you may find very helpful as you move in to the next phase of your journey.   Let us know how your appointments go -  Kellie

Congratulations!  Everyone's pre-op appts are different, but there are some common threads.  They will want to know your weight loss history in detail.  I had to take a MMPI, I think that's fairly common for the psych evaluation.  I cried in my psych evaluation - I thiink it was a combination of exhaustion - I'd been there all morning for surgeon presentation, weigh-in, talk with surgeon, health history, a ton of questionairres, the MMPI - I hadn't eaten and it was like 2 and I was pooped and nervous and excited and just a jumble.  The psychologist saw no problem with me crying, it was cathartic really.  I think I scared the people waiting after me though when I walked out of the office in tears :) Good luck with everything.  I agree with Kellie, go check out the education section. All the best, Jenn
