Welcome JamieLynn, That's great that you want to lose before the procedure. That will definately be a good move for you. My doctor did put me on a preop diet to shrink my liver. It reminded me of South Beach stage 1. Lean protein, veggies, minimal "good" carbs and milk for my snacks. It actually helped me immensely prepare for the post op world. I did lose 11 lbs in less than 2 weeks between my preop appt and my surgery (385 to 374 lb). I was 396 at my consult.
I don't know a whole lot about the procedure you are having, but my doc did tell me that losing 10% of your body weight can cut your risk of surgery by 50% (for any surgery). Haven't verified the accuracy of this statement, but on a lot of levels it does make sense. Especially shrinking down that huge liver that they had to move to get at my stomach. Good luck to you and welcome. -Dawn
Hi Jamielynn and welcome to our forum. You will feel right at home here and you are welcome to look at my profile. I started at 390 and was 367 when I had my surgery. You will be able to lose. Just do your best to follow Jens and Estelle and others advice and before you know it you will have your wls and the adventure will begin. Looking forward to reading your profile and getting to know you better. Hugs. Jo
