Hello! I am new to this forum, but I have been on OH for awhile.  I however have not found people who have had the BMI I have.  I have looked for before and afters of people who are like me, but I have not been that successful.  I just need to see this can really work for someone as big as I.  I weigh 391 lbs.   I will be having Fobi Pouch RNY on May 6th.  I would like to lose some weight between now and then.  Does anyone have any advice for me on how I can drop 20lbs in a month?  My doctor has not put me on a preop diet but he did tell me he would cancel if I gained and I cannot take that chance.  I cannot wait to get to know you all!   I wrote my own little fairy tale on my profile if you would like to know more about me.  Thanks so much!!! Welcome to the BMI over 50 board and congratulations on your upcoming surgery.  I lost weight pre-op using 2-3 protein shakes as meal replacements, and then a small dinner of 3-4oz lean meat (chicken, fish, turkey) and as much vegetable as I wanted (no dressing or butter) - It worked, I lost 18lbs the first two weeks, and about 40 over the course of 2 months.  I wish you all the best and hope you come by to visit and update us frequently :)

Welcome JamieLynn, That's great that you want to lose before the procedure.  That will definately be a good move for you.  My doctor did put me on a preop diet to shrink my liver.  It reminded me of South Beach stage 1.  Lean protein, veggies, minimal "good" carbs and milk for my snacks.  It actually helped me immensely prepare for the post op world.  I did lose 11 lbs in less than 2 weeks between my preop appt and my surgery (385 to 374 lb).   I was 396 at my consult.

I don't know a whole lot about the procedure you are having, but my doc did tell me that losing 10% of your body weight can cut your risk of surgery by 50% (for any surgery).  Haven't verified the accuracy of this statement, but on a lot of levels it does make sense.  Especially shrinking down that huge liver that they had to move to get at my stomach.   Good luck to you and welcome. -Dawn

Hi Jamielynn, Nice to meet you!  I weighed 392 when I started and 344 when I had my surgery I did a preop diet much Like Jens and Lost quite a bit before the surgery. Its a wise decision to try and lose before the surgery, They say if you 10 % of your body weight you can really increase your chances for success after!  I had the fobi as well and Funny thing I weighed almost exactly what you do. I'm 6 Months out from my surgery and I have lost 135 lbs.   I look forward to Reading your posts !  :) Estelle
