What Have You Done Nice Today...

FOR YOURSELF?!?!?! I throw this question out because I think we forget that it's okay to treat ourselves kindly, with dignity and respect.  I know I treated myself like crap for a lot of years - I didn't take pride in how I looked, how I dressed, if I did my hair or if I put makeup on.  I couched this in "oh that's just being vain", now I see it as taking care of myself. One thing I do now since surgery is paint my nails.  I'm one of the fortunate ones that has pretty tough nails that grow pretty decently without much fuss.  So every Sunday night, I sit down and paint my nails - might be purple, might be bright red, today they are a more conservative mauve color.  I don't know if anyone else notices or not but that's not the point.  It's just for me. This week is Spring Break for dd.  I have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off.  I'm taking Wednesday just for me - dd will go to the babysitters.  I start out the day heading to my primary doctor for a check up.  Then I'm going to the YMCA to swim, then I'm going to my favorite salon for a haircut, facial and pedicure. (Yes, a huge splurge for me!)  It's going to be wonderful! So tell me what you've done nice for yourself! Jana

After years and years of trying to please everyone else first I finally realized If I'm not happy then no one around me can be happy. So I now pamper myself all the time! Monthly manicures, pedicures and hair days are a routine in my life now. I guess the best thing I've done for myself today is to RSVP to a "Meet and Greet" with the plastic surgeons working with my surgery center.

You know its funny - I used to spoil myself a lot more with gifts, salons, nice clothes, home pedicures, perfumes, whatever.  I have really gotten out of that habit - before it was to make myself feel better.  Now I'm busy being busy and they don't seem to give me as much pleasure as they did.  I guess my treat is when I spend time not working - playing on OH or flickr or taking pictures.  I do like to go to the salon though, and I need to go buy some more shampoo and conditioner from there this week - however I just can't afford to go very often - we have expensive hobbies these days.  The nicest thing I've done for myself lately was really for my husband too - instead of cheap seats at Fenway in Boston (jun) I forked up the cash for really really really good seats (which of course you have to buy from scalpers).  It was his birthday present, and my present is that hopefully I'll fit in the seats, and I will be close enough for some great pictures.  It was definitely a luxury purchase and a reward for both of us.  Have fun getting pampered!!
