Good afternoon everyone (umm morning for me, I will be so glad when husband's schedule changes).  How goes it?  Today we are going to the grocery store and trying out the new gym we were thinking about.  Not sure what I'll eat yet, but last night was the first time I've made bacon since surgery (I bake it on a rack) and it was a little too good so I think I'm going to buy some turkey bacon or soy bacon today and give the rest of the pork variety to Ryan.  Soy bacon kind of reminds me of those dog treats beggin strips though, it looks weird. How about you?  What's on your plate today?

Hello Dunny. It's a good day here, beautiful, sunny and I just got my hair done (when I started this job in August one of my hiring requests was that I get a 2 hour lunch once a month, and he said no problem!) I haven't tried bacon yet, used to be I'd cook a pound and since hubby doesn't care for it I'd eat it all in one day .... I think about that now and I am amazed! Hope everyone is having a great Thursday!

Pre B - SF NF Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte

B - cottage cheese and Splenda peaches

S - Chinese steamed spinach bun and later on while sitting at the hairdressers a Chai Tea Misto

L - Eggface's Italian Bean Salad - yummo! 1 rosemary flat cracker (croccantini - I have the bag in front of me or I would have never remembered that!)

S - 10 grapes, turkey jerky

D - Eggface's Chili Relleno Casserole, Salad

S - sliced mangos

Good morning, Jen!  I love bacon, but only have it every 3-4 months, usually when I meet some old friends for breakfast.  As you say, it's a little too good to have too often...  I've tried the turkey bacon, but didn't care for it.  So I just have the real thing occasionally....   Hope you like the new gym - some places have better "vibes" than others, so I'm interested to hear what you think about the new place.   As for what's on my plate today, my body cried mercy about the excessive protein from the pouch test, so I'm backing off a bit from yesterday's 217 grams of protein, but still aiming for higher protein and lower carbs than my norm.  Here's what's on my plate today: Breakfast:  1 cup 1% milk in my coffee, 1 packet Quaker Weight Control oatmeal Snack #1:  egg salad made w/ 2 hard-boiled eggs and 2 tbsp. light mayo, plus some leaf lettuce Snack #2:  1 cup skim milk, 1/3 cup Kellogg's AllBran buds [workout #1:  upper body strength training, core work] Lunch:  leftover baked tilapia w/ grape tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic, flat-leaf parsley, and a bit of olive oil - yum Snack #3:  venti non-fat latte Snack #4:  3-4 oz. ****tail shrimp, 6 tbsp. ****tail sauce [workout #2:  50-60 minutes of cardio] Snack #5:  80 calorie chewy granola bar right after workout Dinner:  4 oz. hamburger patty w/ some light mayo and ketchup (no bun), canned green beans Snack #6:  1 cup 1% milk, 1/3 cup Kellogg's AllBran buds Total calories:  2040 Carbs:  214 Fat:  61.5 Fiber:  39.2 Protein:  180.6 Today's weight:  185.7

I sampled some Jimmy Dean turkey sausage at Costco on Sunday....delicious, 120 cal per 3 links and 13g of protein.  Costco's pre-cooked bacon is 80 cal for 2 slices and 6g protein.  If it sounds like I do most of my shopping at Costco, it's true, I do.  You SHOULD try the sausage though Jen...it is very good if you like sausage. #1 B  left over cracker crust pizza (approx 225 cal) #2 B  2 lg cups coffee w/ creamer      L  2 chicken/veggie potstickers (100 cal)      S  2 Plums  (maybe a couple more potstickers)      D  "Sundried tomato, basil, mozzarella cheese chicken burger" on a bun with onion, tomato and LF Miricle Whip....the burger itself (no bun) is 240 cal with 32g of protein....it is sooooo good and, of course, it is from Costco!  Heat for 1 minute in the microwave.

Soy bacon?  Actually, I kind of feel like horking even if we don't discuss soy bacon.  My lunch is sitting kind of hard today. B: 2 EAS protein shakes, gulped in the car, 220 calories, 34g protein E: lots of driving in the car, getting out, and walking around places S: 1 venti decaf L: 3 medium chicken thighs, baked.   450 calories, 45g protein I may take it easy at dinner and just have protein drinks.  Aquacise ought to be interesting tonight, hopefully the sloshing around doesn't give Pouchy ideas. Kix I made it through aquacise without horking.  Class was jam packed tonight, I think everyone was trying to get their exercise done early tonight -- the second class only had three people. I had a weird, achy feeling in my head during class, and the feeling continued until I came home and ate dinner.  Had 2 chicken thighs, baked without ginger sauce, just used a bit of olive oil and cracked pepper @ 300 calories, 30g protein.  I added a handful of cashews about an hour later, and my weird, achy feeling went away.  Maybe I was just hungry, or having an odd reaction to the ginger sauce, or maybe Pouchy just wanted to annoy me, I don't know!

I can't even imagine having that late of a schedule - it would totally throw me off! I'm still having problems eating, no appetite at all. I know it's nerves, this is exactly what happened to me when dad was sick. And besides the camp and all that happened, there are some other things that I have to process and figure out. I never thought I would be someone who couldn't eat! What a weird change. So, here it goes: pre-workout snack: PB Pudding breakfast: cheese quesadilla (low fat tortilla, low fat mexican cheese) lunch: 3 ounces of a pork chop, mixed veggies snack: medium banana, atkins protein bar dinner: probably an atkins protein bar snack: 2 granola bites calories:  1656 fat: 67 carbs: 198 fiber: 31 protein: 87 water: 96 ounces weight: 170

Yeah I've pretty much always baked my bak - it makes it crispy and keeps it flat and I have more control over it (I burn it in a pan) - I bake it on 350 to render the fat and then I broil it for a few minutes to make it crispy.  And then I blot it, thoroughly.  But alas, its still bacon.  I ended up skipping groceries - I dumped today.  Twice.  The first was a kashi bar and it was very mild, possibly not even a dumping episode except I decided to work out soon afterward.  The second was after grapes at souper salad.  Stupid grapes.  It was a doozy!  We went to Target for a few things right after we ate, and partway through the store I was ready to lay down and go to sleep.  I was very sweaty and completely uncoordinated/shaky.  It was the worst dump I've ever had.  I assume it was the grapes, I only ate salad for goodness sakes, and the dressing wasn't sweet and nothing was fatty. I think its time to invest in a blood sugar monitor.

If you have time, it's good to eat your "pre-workout" snack about 45-60 minutes before you actually start exercising.  That gives your body time to begin to digest what you've given it for energy.  If you eat too close to your workout, your body is dividing its energy between digestion and exercise, then you're not as efficient at either task.  Alas, our bodies are not great multitaskers in that way.  Of course, it may simply be that the Kashi bar had too many carbs for your system!!!   One of my girlfriends is diabetic and grapes send her blood sugar level soaring.  She does better with berries, apples, and bananas.  And the bananas don't make any sense, since they rank pretty high on the glycemic index, but they do not affect her sugar like grapes.

Hopefully you'll have a better day Friday!!!
