urine sample

Hi everyone. I have a hard time with reaching and I believe I have a uti. When I go to the doctor to give a urine sample what in the world do I tell them? Someone told me to ask for a hat , which collects urine. What did those of you with this problem do? Thanks and sorry if this is tmi.

No problem, just tell them you have difficulty collecting the sample and will need a hat.  The hat is like a plastic bedpan, you put it under the toilet seat, do your thing, and then pour it into the specimen jar. I used to do this all the time when I had to give urine samples.  No one will even blink an eye when you tell them you need a hat. Even when I was younger, and not too fat, and far more limber, I was never any good at peeing into those little tiny specimen cups!  Sometimes guys do have it easier than women do! Kix

HEY BOBBIE,         BLESS YOUR HEART.... THAT UTI IS A KILLER I TELL YA.. I NEVER HAD THEM UNTIL I HAD WLS AND HAVE HAD TWO THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET... I MAKE SURE I DRINK ALOT! I NOTICED IT WHEN I SLACKED OFF ON DRINKING AND IT JUST DID ME IN... I GET NAUSEAS SO BADLY TILL I ACTUALLY WOULD GAG FROM THE PAIN.... SO I HAVE FOR SURE GOT THE TELL TALE SIGNS OF THAT FEELING FROM NOW ON AND KNOW WHEN ONE IS LURKING... ABOUT THE URINE SAMPLE THOUGH... I HAVE NO IDEA WHY MY PCP DOESNT HAVE JOHNNY HATS...GO FIGURE... WHEN I WAS AT MY LARGEST WEIGHT I WENT FOR A SAMPLE WHEN BEGINNING MY JOURNEY OF SURGERY AND LET ME TELL YA..... IT WASNT PRETTY... LETS JUST SAY IT TOOK ME A WHILE IN THAT BATHROOM AND A LOT LOT LOT OF TOILET PAPER. I FELT SO HOPELESS AS IT WAS BEING THAT LARGE BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO DO THAT SMALL TASK WAS AWFUL. I WILL NEVER FORGET IT. AND WHAT WAS WORSE IS THAT I CAME OUT WITH JUST A DROP OR TWO AND PRAYED THAT WAS ALL THEY NEEDED... HECK, THE REST WENT ON THE FLOOR AND DOWN THE FAT LEGS.... bobbie ,  It looks like i'm to late to help here your probably at your docs already, I asked my pcp for a hat and they didn't have one (right after my surgery) well I twisted and turned and tried like hell to pee in that damn cup and finsly I did it. went home and felt like a sick puppy I had twisted something else so I promised myslef that would fnot be ashamed to just ask to have my test done at a lab where i could use a hat. Its not a problem anymore but I think it was very unprofesional of my docs office to not have one on hand for patients that need it .   Most pediatricians have them for little girls.  I hope all is well  Estelle

Well, girls, I went to the doctor. I have a urinary tract infection for sure. They give me some meds. I used the hat and let me tell you, I could not of done without it! When I went into the bathroom to do the urine sample, the little cloth packet they give you to wash off with before, well I dropped it on the floor......when I went to pick it up i almost fell head first in the toilet.  That would of been embarrassing. Well thanks for all the advice ladies!
