As a help to lurkers and others considering WLS...how about those of us who have had surgery answer truthfully the following....... it'll be eye opening. Since losing the weight, list 5 things that have drastically changed in your life either emotionally or physically. 1.  I no longer have to sit for every task and I can walk through big stores without having to sit down every 10 minutes. 2.  I no longer need help getting out of a recliner or off the sofa. 3. I feel more energetic and that gives me better self esteem. 4.  I no longer have to sleep with a C-pap mask on my face making me feel like an alien. 5.  I no longer have diabetes or high blood pressure. Total Weight  Loss 83 lbs.

1.  I no longer have high blood pressure 2.  I am sometimes not the largest person in the room, which is weird 3.  I can walk for a long time without having to sit down 4.  I can sit in restaurant booths 5.  There seems like there is a LOT more room on the bed at night.

1.  I no longer have high blood pressure.  In fact, my blood pressure is now on the low side (100/60). 2.  I walk fast!  I always used to be the person lagging behind, now I'm heading up the pack.   3.  My fasting blood sugars are now normal (before surgery, my fasting glucose numbers were creeping up, a sure sign I was headed for diabetes).

4.  I can do whatever I want for as long as I want.  I no longer have to think about how far I may have to walk, or if there will be some place to sit, or I will fit at the table/booth at a restaurant or in the theater.

5.  I am no longer afraid of meeting new people for fear of being judged.   Kellie

1) I look forward to seeing people I havn't seen in awhile (preop I was always afraid because I was most likely bigger than the last time they saw me)  2) I can fit in restaurant booths ( one night my DH and our Friends went to dinner the hostess set us in a booth I couldn't fit and we had to wait for a table to open) that was one of the worse things. 3) I don't need help to get up off the couch 4) I move alot faster my friend Pattty says I used to lumber now I sprint! lol 5) I can RUN 6) I met alot of cool people on this message board (maybe thats # 1)

Yeah you're right about #6!! I could have easily listed several more things. The restaurant booth is true...I used to feel like a sardine stuffed into its can. Wouldn't ya think I'd have less room to eat like that....yeah right!  LOL No such luck.  Hey...I forgot...I don't need the seat belt extender in my car anymore!    I'm happy for your accomplishments.  HUGS  Jeanine

I don't have a huge amount of drastic changes yet as my surgery was on 1/25.. But I can tell all you lerkers 5 drastic changes that happen in the first 5 weeks after surgery..  1) That pain in your left side... absolutely goes away.. and sooner than you think.  2) For those of us who are left side sleepers and you're exhausted from not being able to sleep on your back or right side.. that too goes away.. I was back on my left side comfortably at week 3 1/2..  3) Food.. even in very small amounts is going to taste wonderful again and you will become very creative wth what you can and can not eat to get that protein in while still feeling full and not feeling hungry. 4) You're feeling better about yourself each and every day.. and  5) you have a huge support group here. There's so many of us that there's always someone out there whose been where you are now or where you're going or going through exactly what you are right now.. Use us.
