*&%^ snow derailed me from my workout this morning. You can tell we had a blizzard, my car was encrusted with ice and it took me forever to clear it off enough so that I could at least see where i was going. Unfortunately my cleanup this morning left me with only 20 minutes to workout and I opted to get ready to head to work early (since the roads should be a bear, need that extra time). I figure instead I will either run the stairs at work or run after work. I'm leaning toward the stairs, since I don't like to work out at night. I AM SO READY FOR SUMMER!!!!!!!

We were snowed in yesterday, the wind blew so hard we had whiteout conditions, so we opted to stay home and do house chores.  One of my house chores involved shoveling the 8 inches of heavy, wet snow that covered the driveway.  I couldn't believe the snow was so heavy and full of water.  They had better not tel us we're headed for a drought this summer. It still looks icy this morning, but I think by the time I'm ready to leave the house around midday the snow should have softened up a bit. After that glorious Saturday (74 degrees, woohoo!), getting snow yesterday was just an insult.  I am definitely ready for summer. Kix

Kix,  I found out that you can enter a 5K and if you can't run the whole thing you can walk some of it and not get in trouble.  I know that sounds silly but I always thought if you can't run why enter it you can go for a walk any ole time, right?  well every year in Sept our Cub scout pack hands ou****er to the runners in the adirondack 5k , This event my DH usualy takes my son too so I didn't know people could stop running if they had too. Well anyway we talked about it and I'm going to enter it. That gives me untill sept to be in shape enough to enter with the possibilty of running it. I'm telling the world so  it gives me someone other than me to answer too, and something to work toward other than just weight loss :)  OK, On Your Mark, Get SET, GOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! so today i'm going to the gym and will do 35 on the tredmill. any advice is great! I cant wait till the white **** goes AWAY!!!!  damn its been a longggggggggggggggggg winter  Estelle

Another one joining the ranks of us runners! Good for you for doing that, that's a big step. And I have the perfect plan for you. I did this to get ready for a 5K and now I have moved on and am using their 10K training program. It's called the Couch to 5K plan and it's here:  http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml If you follow it faithfully you should have no problem running a 5K by September - heck, you could probably run one before that! It takes it nice and slow, mixes up lots of walking with the running and you don't feel like you want to die . Try it and see what you think - I loved it, it was an easy program to follow and now I'm hooked.

Hm, that sounds fun.  Can this be done on a treadmill?  Also, I don't see a recommended speed here, so I'm going to assume that my loping 2.5 MPH is ok. I'm thinking about walking in the Furry Scurry in May, it's a 2K.  I think I can do it, it's a nice way to start getting into these fun walks/runs. Kix

That's how I did it, on the treadmill. I went reallllyyy sllloowww at first, so speed doesn't matter at all. I tell ya though, it was much easier to run than I thought it would be - that program made all the difference!

Pj,  I did the 5K on the tredmill in 55 mins , It was really really hard and at first I set the machine for 35 mins  and after 10 I always wi**** was over by 25 my body is used to it and at 35 I decided to keep going I was going to try 45 mins but then I realized how close I was to do the whole thing and I just kept going. It took me 55 mins and then I turned the the speed way down to a crawl and did that for 5 mins because I was afraid to just hop off and stop.   I forgot what the plan was and printed it to put in my gym bag and everything and never did. but I did alternate running walking but I think my walking  was longer than 90 mins and my running was about a min each time. I know i'm rambling lol and now I have to pee but i'm not sure I can get up lol  Thanks Pj :)  Estelle

Hmmm sunny and gorgeous here, a little windy today but the weekend was insanely beautiful.  I am super sleepy today and lethargic.  I thought some exercise would help so I did 40 minutes on the bike before my shower this morning.  Nope.  Still sleepy.  I decided to work from home today and take a nap in a few hours.
