An yone know whats with water weight?  I know why i'm getting it , I know its because I started my "." yesterday but why does it happen and can we take anything over the counter? It gets so bad my knees hurt. I know my joints are just full of fluid. I weighed myself today and I gained 4 lbs I know its all water or I hope it is anyway lol  plus I havnt had a decent BM in a couple days but I can feel all bloated and yucky so I'm pretty sure thats what it is. Anyway is this something we just have to live with forever? does it get better as you get smaller?   Thanks  Estelle

Hi Estelle,

I know what you are feeling with the water weight, I was on one prior to the surgery but he took me off it. I know somedays depending on what i eat my weight will fluctuate and I can tell I am retaining fluid. Not having the BM can also contribute to a gain (as you know). Unfortunately it is one of those things lol and we have to live with it. The diaretics can dehydrate you so I guess I am better off without it.

Hopefully this will get better as we skrink.

I am doing good - going back to work tomorrow and the Saratoga support group is tomorrow so I will not be going since I am sure I will be tired!!! But plan to go in April to that and the one in Glens Falls.

Talk soon.

Hope your first day back wasn't too awful!  Maybe you, me Estell & Lisa can go in April together...do you know where its held?  I agree with you about diuretics..I think they can be dangerous.  Althought it sounds crazy, you have to actually drink more to flush out what you are retaining.  Hope this helps Estelle. DRINK DRINK DRINK....no not tequila silly....good ole H2O.  HUGS  Jeanine

Well, you can take things to help the constipation, but I would NOT take a diuretic - its just too easy to get dehydrated as a post op.  I've pretty much got my constipation under control with 2 colace per day and sometimes magnesium.  Both draw water from your tissues into your bowel so it might help with water retention to.  Honestly, drinking more water and watching your salt is the best way to improve water retention unless you have a condition like congestive heart failure or lymphedema.  If you don't drink enough water your body will intentionally hold on to it, so flood yourself and get those kidneys pumping.
