Having some low blood sugar issues and don't know what to do about it. I get real shaky feeling and when I test my blood it's been in the low 60's - low 70's. Not super low, but lower than it's always been. Diet wise I think I'm doing ok, missing startches, but have since surgery. Guess it's time to call the DR. Any ideas welcome! Pre B - SF NF Brown Sugar Cinnamon latte

S - Swiss Miss Diet hot cocoa w 2 SF marshmallows , a bit later Chai Tea Misto (it was a cold morning).

Your food for today sounds unusually tasty.  It usually sounds good but now I'm jonesing for some chicken cacciatore cooked all day in the slow cooker.  Hummina hummina.  Sometimes these posts are a blessing and a curse Uh oh on the low blood sugar.  You eat frequently which is good, I heard yesterday from meltingmama's site that corn starch has been shown to decrease sugar lows, and kay's naturals have corn starch.  I'd see your doc of course, and in the meantime keep something like hard candy or glucose tablets on your just in case you drop very low.  I'm starting to wonder about blood sugar issues too.  An hour or two after I eat I get very tired and shaky or jittery and then ravenous, but it doesn't happen all the time.  It seems to happen most often when I have a relatively large meal (by my current standards, i.e. an entire chicken breast).  I have not checked my blood sugar but I'm thinking about getting a meter now and I'll definitely be bringing it up at my next doc appt.

Well, you know me I have Kay's Natural's everywhere, I'll have to give them a try for snacks again, sometimes I just forget I have them around! The chicken cacciatore is Eggface's recipe with roasted veggies and it's a family favorite! I make double so I can freeze some for lunches, heck I do that with all my dinners. This blood sugar thing just started happening, and for me 63 is low, I'm going to start keeping track of when and what I eat and see how it goes. I pulled out the old meter from my pre-op days and got a new battery for it. My Mom gave me some new strips so I know everything is correct. I tested myself on her machine too, same results! I will pick up some glucose tabs, good idea to have around.

Ugh, blood sugar... such a pain. It's a constant struggle for me, although I've got it somewhat under control. You eat fairly frequently so that's good. I don't go any longer than 3 hours between eating and always have a protein/carb combo. (peanut butter crackers, protein bars, string cheese with a banana, etc) I also got some glucose tabs and that works well in a pinch. Mine doesn't get super low either but I can feel it coming on when my sugar is in the 70's - I've never been lower than 50 and don't really want to experience that, my lows are bad enough! I carry protein bars with me all the time - that helps. There is one thing I would suggest - I use to wait until I didn't feel good to eat and then it would take hours, sometimes days for me to get back to normal. Once I started eating on a schedule, a lot of my problems disappeared. If I wait for over 3 hours, I can guarantee I am going to have problems. I still get lows occasionally but  they are few and far between. A lot of it is trial and error - in talking to others with the same problem I have found that each of them is different in what works for them. It took me about 4 months of testing things to figure out what works best and even then it sometimes doesn't work. Good luck, sounds like you are much more knowledgeable than I was!

Thanks for the tips PJ! Sounds like you are dealing with the same thing I am. I've never been lower than 50 either. I like you do not go more than 3 hours between eating or it gets real bad. I should be hearing from my DR today, she's real good about returning calls. I had a few lows this weekend, but not as bad as it has been. I think the only reason I'm knowledgeable about diabetes is I grew up with a diabetic best friend (she was diagnosed when we were 6 and passed away a bit over a year ago), and have 4 family member that have developed diabetes over the years. My Dad dies from complications of diabetes (kidney failure) and my Mom is an insulin dependant diabetic. Scares the crap out of me, one of the reason I decided to have WLS, I was also taken med's for blood sugar.

Today was pretty good -  no sugar lows and not too tempted by the abundant amount of candy at work. I did indulge in a tootsie pop, figure that's ok every  now and then. pre-workout snack: PB Pudding Breakfast: fat free yogurt, small banana snack: 2 atkins protein bars lunch: 1/4 C. Raisins, 2.5 ounces of canned chicken, 2 tablespoons mayo snack: tootsie pop snack: Cheese stick dinner: barbecue chicken with grilled zucchini and parmesan cheese snack: 3 granola bites calories: 1906 fat: 65 carbs: 242 fiber: 27 protein: 107 water: about 112 ounces weight: 170 Not bad for today - I am down 4 pounds since Tuesday, so I'm pretty happy with that. I only have 13 days before camp, I would like to get to 165 at least -that seems do able.

i am throwing caution to the winds!

Saturday: a full standing rib roast with yorkshire pudding, creamed cauliflower with horseradish, buttered peas, crispy oven roasted potatoes-covered in great lashings of gravy.  for desert-1 wedge apple crisp pie, one wedge double chocolate cheesecake. oh-and the snack, regular sized bag of cheetos!

Sunday: 1 medium double cheese, four meats, anchovy pizza-with red peppers and onions. desert-grocery store birthday cake 9x12 with huge roses border-colour unimportant.  and no, it's not MY birthday, but, somewhere in the world it is someone's birthday so i'd thought i'd celebrate.  snack thai dinner for four take away meal (anyone know if deep fried bananas travel well?)

further updates from emerg to follow!
