Bypass? / Repost from the RNY board

I posted this on the RNY board and Someone said it was because I was eating to much fat? But i'm not to sure of that either Is  this not normal do any of you get this? How exactly does the bypass part of the procedure work? I know that I see the fat in toilet when I go  I can see swirleys like some say.

But does this part of the surgery stop working after the first year or two?  Does our body go Hello?  and figure it out and try to fix itself?  or do we always malabsorb some of our calories?  Or do some malabsorb more than others?  Do most see the swirlys?

I know that being 5 months out I should probably know the answer to this but its something I forget to ask my doc and I cant seem to get any answers by google either.

Today is my 5 months out and have lost a total of 131 lbs

Any answers would be apreciated  :)

Thanks!

I sent you a message the other day, anyhow its going good - I have had ricotta cheese, turkey meatball, eggs (hardboiled) to make egg salad seem to sit the best. I had cream of wheat this morning with pureed peaches and that tasted good. The NUT said I was not eating enough fruits/veggies. I am going to have chicken tonight - I tried last week but I think it was to soon. Just taking it slow, may I ask your thoughts on NSA Carnation Instant Breakfast? My NUT said ok - treat it as a liquid and then have something else for breakfast cottage cheese, yogurt - your thoughts?

Will call again, I am going back to work next week (Monday) I will be tired but need to get back in the swing of things.

Take care and enjoy yet another snow sotrm!

I lost 11 lbs as of last Friday and weighed myself this AM and was down another 5 , so 46 total! who would have thought??? lol

Ugh I'm almost 7 months out and you've lost 1 less pound than me.  I KNOW I shouldn't compare with other people but .  I'm so lame, why can't I lose faster?  WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Ok its out of my system.  Anyway, I get the swirlys now and again, but not often at all.  Constipation is still my problem.  I got them a lot when my gallbladder was bad though.  Do you still have your gall bladder?  How much were you bypassed?  I think the malabsorption lessens over time as the intestines grow new pili and get better at handling the new situation.

Do you think it happens when you eat alot of fat?  How much is alot of fat? lol  I know that sounds like such a newbie question but honestly if you look at all the comments on your calorie posts everyone is so different. ( I have to be honest this is kinda driving me CRAZYYYYYYYYY)  Anyway Dont make me come to Texas and Kick you @ss for talking like that your doing amazing. (God knows I could use the sunshine though) lol you can't compare unless our surgeries are in the same month (compareing isn't a good idea at all but lets face it we all do it)  look at michelle she has lost 50 lbs and she had her surgery last week. So we have to be carefull about the comparing because it isn't fair to us. I say that as everyday I look to see how much people on my month have lost and I think most of them have lost more than me. Its a crazy roller coaster of crap we put ourselvs through isn't it?   BTW I just looked at your profile and 2 months ago you had lost 121 lbs which in the big picture is about the same as 131 lol  you have to look at it that way.   Besides you can't have everything its not fair to be cute look 19 and and lose fast you gotta give something up lol  See ya  SS

Yes it happens when I have a fatty meal - my mcdonalds burger patty and kiddie cone left me on the toilet several times the next day with swirly foamy disgusting diarrhea - fat or sugar alcohols are a great way to solve constipation, if you are willing.  Its funny because of the people in my month I'm one of the faster losers I've seen, but you are kicking my butt!  Did you lose a lot before surgery?  I lost about 35.  And then there is the scale issue.  My doc's scales always read at least 5 lbs lower than mine and the original numbers are from his scale, so if I wanted I could add 5 lbs to my total lost but I don't because its just confusing.  I shouldn't compare, and mostly I don't, but you are sunshine and you I just wanna be like you.

Do I detect a tinge of sarcasm?  lol  I lost 44 lbs before my surgery I was on medifast for 12 weeks with one meal a day and one cheat day a week lol ( Doc duno about that)  So my 131 is preop included, My docs scale is diff too when I weighed in last time it weighed me 2 point someting  lbs heavier but I had cloths and shoes on.  And maybe I am eating to much fat did you dump from the kiddie cone?  I can't eat sweets or cold stuff they hurt my teeth a whole different health issue :(  and in my month at my bmi i'm a slow loser :(  SS

I did not dump from the kiddie cone, its 6g of sugar and 45 cal.  I don't think its too terrible for an urgently needed sweet moment.  I tend to be ok up to about 10g of sugar, unless its fruit.  I have NO IDEA how to judge whether I will dump from fruit.  It varies.  I think the fatty poo was from the burger patty and cheese.  The whole meal was just a bad bad bad bad bad idea.

How much fat are you eating?  If its happening a lot and you still have your gall bladder, you might maybe be getting stones.
