Does the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival still exist? I interned there for a summer in Lakewood. My favorite day off activity was to take the train to the Case/museum stop.

San Antonio is rated as the second fattest city in the country.  People eat at restaurants an average of 5 1/2 nights per week.  There are sooo many restaurants.  We also throw parades constantly.  If you can think of a reason to have a parade, the city is up for it.

It must be all that good Tex-Mex food.  Isn't Houston the fattest city in the country? How many parades does San Antonio have in a year? Kix

Houston used to be but I think this year or last year they dropped out of first place - I think there are still 4 Texas cities in the top 10 though - San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth.  Personally I think the weather has a lot to do with it, its too damn hot in the summer to leave the air conditioning  and go outside. I don't know how many parades, but I'd guess 1 or 2 per month, and then in March during Fiesta an extra couple parades are thrown in.

Wow, you guys have such interesting facts about where you live....on the other hand here's some about mine... *Startup Washington is part of unincorporated Snohomish County *we have like 3 1/2 sheriff's deputy's that patrol a 40 mile stretch *we have 3 churches, 2 bars an RV parts place, a burger shack, and the Coffeehouse that my partner and I own. *we have a population of like 900 *and the Meth Labs outnumber the business. And Kix...they actually had to pass a law here making it illegal for people to start their cars and leave them running unoccupied...lol too many were disappearing...

I wondered which part of WA your little hamlet was located. When I lived in Olympia, Thurston County had the highest number of meth labs in the state.  Pretty impressive when you consider places like Chehalis and Pend Oreille.  I guess that meant the main employers in town were the state government and meth heads. Are you in the northern part of Snohomish Co or more east? Kix

hey Kix, We sit on HWY 2 just about 40 miles from the summit of Stevens Pass, so that makes us kinda north-eastern Snohomish county.... We also have our share of rednecks here...a few years ago some friends took my partner and i out to dinner for our birthdays (mines 3/12 and hers is 3/13) to a local bar/resturaunt and we actually overheard the following conversation...  "Hey...(insert random hick name here) aint them those f*#king dykes that own that there coffee place down from that god#*mn gook store?"  now the "gook" in question would be the delightful Lou who owns the little market about a mile up the road from us and is the nicest guy ever, but is harrassed by every moron in town on a very regular basis despite the fact that they all buy their busch beer and scratch tickets from him....lol

Why is it that rednecks only drink Busch beer?  I've lived in a bunch of places in my life, St. Louis being one of them.  St. Louis is the home of Anheuser-Busch and its narsty beer (horse whiz, but that's another post).  Only the Hoosiers (St. Louis jargon for redneck) drank Busch beer. I thought Olympia had its share of mouth breathers and inbreds, but it sounds like you win after all! Had I been in your shoes, I'd have probably gone over and kissed the SOB just to see his reaction, telling him that guys like him are the reason you went off 'em in the first place!    Of course, you'd have to use eight gallons of Listerine afterwards. I love messing with stupid people. Kix

and oh baby, what a prize it is...lol i bet we're the only coffeeshop in the country that gets informed by our "customers" and i use that term very loosely, that "ya'll sure would make a lot more money if ya'll sold beer back there too!" even though there is a bar right next door to us... and for the record... i wouldn't kiss any of these fools without a full haz-mat suit... they got the cooties out here...lol ~lori
