Sorry you need another transfusion; is there any indication why you need another one?  Is it just because of your period?  If so, too bad about the timing.  I hope you get to go home soon -  Regarding the sip vs. guzzle, just keep sipping.  One good guzzle and you'll feel absolutely miserable (trust me!).  For a while, you'll feel like the only thing you do is sip, sip, sip, eat, eat, eat, sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip, eat, eat, eat, sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk....  Get the picture?  Thankfully, that phase lasts a relatively short period of time, and taking it easy gives your body time to heal!   Keep us posted on how you're doing -  Kellie

hey sweety sorry this is happening to you :(  My doctor actualy told me to expect my period after my surgery and that I should even bring my favorite pads but not to use tampons because it happens to alot of wls patients right after surgery. Did you used to get anemic when you had your periods? do they think it will all go away when you stop bleeding?  The not being able to drink as much as i wanted at first was hard for me to handle. My doc said the best way to do it was to fill your mouth with what will fit and let the water kind of fall into your belly.  It worked really well for me.  Please know that the hardest part is now and it will all only get easier and you will only get more and more healthy everyday,  I'm thinking about you :)  Estelle

I second the whole fill your mouth with water idea.  I'd get so thirsty that I wanted to just chug water.  I found that just having a mouthful of water and swishing it around like mouthwash the swallowing a little at a time really helped. When I could handle 2-3 swallows at a time, I almost cried! Jana

Wow, I'm sorry this is happening for you. It's good they are being very careful with you. I understand about wanting to gulp. It was a real struggle for me for the first 4 months. In the beginning I could only get three tiny sips in and then it hurt. After a couple months I was able to do two or three swallows. Now I can drink more, but still not a full bottle of water like I used to. Sometimes I get angry about that; it's the only restriction thing that ticks me off. But what I found was that if I really kept after my fluids as soon as I got up in the morning, the thirst was much less. I now start off with 16-20 oz of fluid before I eat breakfast. It made a big difference. Here's to you getting home soon (raising a cup of tea!) -Julie
Practice safe eating - always use condiments.
