Gym is Open (Tuesday 2/19)
Morning Kix,
I determined that I WOULD check back in here after the Y and post my exercise. It helps me to stay focused when I do that!
I taught an intense water aerobics class today. We did a hard cardio/muscle toning set that started at 30 second intervals and worked up to 90 seconds. The straight leg kicks to the front and behind are HARD for 90 seconds at a time. That REALLY gets your heart going and strengthens your legs/glutes. I keep thinking that I'm working my butt/thighs off with that one! We did 35 minutes of intense cardio, upper body and legs along with HARD abs for 15 minutes, 5 minutes of more toning and a 5 minute cool down.
I'm in a training class for water fitness, and I'm having to come up with some new ideas, and that is a *****allenging for me given the guidelines.
Jennie, our aquacise substitute teacher (who is awesome, I wish she taught the class all the time) had us doing some of those cardio exercises you described, just not as long. The straight leg kicks are very hard, but not as hard as aerobic rocking horse. Ow!
She also did some new ab exercises and I certainly felt like I had quite a workout. Our class goes for 40 minutes only. I've only been to an hour class once, it was Deep Water Aerobics in the cold pool. Loved the class, hated the cold pool!

Myf foot was sore, but not sore enough to justify staying off it for another day, so I went to the gym. I burned 325 calories on the treadmill -- 10 minute warmup @ 10% incline, then 20 minutes of killer fat burn program, ending with 10 minutes of cool down @ 10% incline for 5 minutes, 5% incline for 3 minutes, 2% incline for 1 minute, and 1% incline for 1 minute.
I also did lower body work, but did fewer reps to see whether it's the number of reps I'm doing, or the amount of weight I'm using, that makes my knees hurt more than usual.
The weather is glorious here in CO today, and I'm stuck indoors doing a major overhaul on my federal resume. There is an HHS (Health and Human Services) gig here in Denver for a Public Health Analyst who provides assistance to grantees, does program audits, etc. It's right up my alley, 'cuz that's what I used to do before I could no longer work. What's that song from Chorus Line? "I Hope I Get It!"

I went to the gym and did 40 minutes on the treadmill (it said 295 calories). I'm pooped now, but it felt good.
Wow! How fast are you walking on that treadmill? I made it up to 325 calories burned at 40 minutes, but that's because I did my mountain goat imitation and took the incline up to 10% for part of the workout. My usual walking speed is 2.5 - 2.7. I've tried faster speeds without success thus far.
Good job on the workout!

I walked with no incline set at 2.5mph to warm up and cool down (5 min warm up and 5 min cool down). Yesterday I set it at 6% incline for the middle section at 2.7-2.8mph. I can do 3 fairly easily (still able to talk, etc.) but not for very long, plus sort of scared for the ankles and didn't want to set off coughing. I think my normal pace around school would be about 2.5 - that feels like a slightly less than leisurely walking pace to me. If I went much over 3 I'd be jogging and/or flying off the machine.

Also, it seems like different machines/brands give you different calorie readings. Mine might be more generous than yours :)
