Louts!  I had it so easy as a federal employee that if I calculated my actual hours worked against my salary, I probably earned 10 cents an hour, which means I'd have probably earned more money sewing volleyballs in Pakistan. I guess my goal when I go back to work is to find a  "cushy" government job and not just a "government job".  Kix ex-fed

Poor Kellie, my sister has the same problem.  I think she gets the same holidays as you (or perhaps even fewer, I'm trying to recall if she gets Labor Day).  When I was assigned to WA state, the Simon Legrees gave us those holidays, plus Presidents' Day.  It was a big shock after coming from Oakland and all those extra holidays!   I've started doing two ab machines, and the second one also makes my abs cry.  I watched some wiry old man do about 635,000 crunches on the ab machine (the one where you lie on your back and crunch), then he did some manic stretching on the mat, then did 635,000 more crunches.  He saw I was waiting and moved aside so I could do my puny two sets of 15 reps. (hangs head in shame). I upped the weights on the quad machine (I forgot the actual name of the machine) from 70 lb to 90 lbs because 70 wasn't feeling difficult enough.  90 didn't feel bad the day I did it.  However, my knees have been grumpy ever since. Your exercise routine sounds so demanding.  I don't know how you do it and work full time. Kix

Hey Kix, I honestly don't remember how we celebrated it in grade school. but I know that when I lived in Tampa we didn't have presidents day off at all because we had a pirates pirade(Gasparila)   in Feb that school was closed for. As odd as it sounds they celebrate when Jose Gaspar invaded Tampa (never happened lol) I had a "I want to scream day" so at 12:30 today I got up out of my chair locked my office and walked in the -9 temps for 30 mins. I didnt want to go back inside but it was really COLD!  It did make me feel better well when I could feel again that is lol  Estelle

EEK, was it that cold in NY today?  You might very well have ended up an Estelle-sicle. I like those holidays unique to each state.  In Hawaii, we had Prince Kuhio Day (March), King Kamehameha Day (June) and Good Friday.  In Missouri, we had Truman Day (May).  In Utah, we had Pioneer Day (July).  I think in Philly and in Tallahassee, we just took the regular holidays. Oh, as a fed, if a former president passed away, we had the option of working (and getting overtime pay, an unusual bonus) or taking the day off as a paid holiday.  It's the only time I ever thanked Nixon for doing something (dying)!  Yes, I know, I'm going straight to Hell. I remember many assemblies back in grade school where some poor kid had to read the Gettysburg Address. Not exactly the thing to keep grade school interest. And coloring log cabins was boring - all green and brown. The boys drew nasty axe wounds.

It sounds like we're about the same age!  We had to memorize portions of the Gettysburg Address and recite it at the Lincoln Assembly.  I also remember the log cabins, although one year we actually made "log" cabins out of popsicle sticks (in the days when schools actually had money for supplies). Hi Kix, I was on the run all day yesterday and didn't get my exercise posted.  I taught 1 hour of high intensity water aerobics.  I had 23 in my class yesterday, which is quite a few, even for a big pool - because 1/2 of the pool is also being used for lap swimming at the same time.  It was a good class - lots of energy and fun at the same time.  My daughters finance has been coming this week and he is liking the class more and more.  Over the past 2 months he is down 40lbs and wants to lose another 40.  He is getting in shape to take his department of corrections physical.  He is watching his intake and trying to drop some lbs and be in better condition for those tests.
