Good Afternoon Marge & all my WLS buddies. I am a fan of red myself! In my last house I had a dining room wall painted red...looked really sharp. If the new owner hates it, they'll have one heck of a time covering it! LOL I've had a decent week. Caught myself a nice cold....first one in 2 years! I think the grandspecials are to blame. Grandma can't resist their hugs & smooches. I am working very hard at getting in my protein and water. Did a good job on the scale this week. Seems like the journey to ONEderland is taking forever...but knowing its coming soon has me VERY excited! I am having filet mignon for Valentine's Day..probably won't get the whole piece down, but we like to have a romantic dinner by the fireplace so that is what I am making....hope it doesn't work against me. I will chew chew & chew some more during this "experiment". Maybe I should have a backup...like a lobster tail! YUM! As for candy...thank God I was never hugely into that. Though Valentines and Easter....I do crave some. I can tolerate the SF Russell Stover toffee crunch squares, so I suspect DH will get me some of those. I adore jelly belly jelly beans, but the SF ones are not that great & I fear they could obstruct me. Happy Valentine's Day to all. HUGS Jeanine

I don't have problems with filet mignon (and I haven't tried any other steak but I did try husband's prime rib with no issues also) - but if its a thick steak I will usually butterfly it or request that it be butterflied, because it seems to be a little easier for me thinner and cooks more evenly. A good filet from a restaurant is usually nearly fork tender and not too hard to chew, and small. I can't even finish half of a 6oz filet though - I usually slice the leftovers very very thin and put them on a salad or in a quesadilla the next day. I don't reheat steak and eat it by itself - it gets dry to me. A 6oz filet generally gives me 3 tasty meals. Yum. You can get super lean cuts too, which is nice.
All sounds good...but you are 6 months out where I am only 3....so I pray my romantic dinner doesn't end in agony. I already got the filets at the butcher shop last week when they were on sale & froze them. They were nice & lean and I'm a good cook so they should be tender. (Sitting here with fingers crossed!) The PA I saw at my 1 month post op said 4 months for lettuce (salad)...now a new nutritionist within their office tells me 6 months out for salad & fresh fruits!!
When did you try them & how did it go??? HUGS Jeanine

I was allowed salad and fresh fruits/veggies at three months. Those were the last restriction on my list (except fresh celery and pineapple, which they said at least six months to never because its soo fibrous) I had no problems with any veggies but anything leafy should be very well chewed so it doesn't lay flat over the stoma and block it. The same things with skins like pepper skins and apples or the fibrous stuff in citrus - really chew it small! I was also allowed any meat that I could tolerate from 2 months out but the recommended only really tender slow-cooked type beef (pot roast etc) to start - see how that goes and then work your way to other things, steak being last. I actually tolerate steak better than ground beef, which is usually iffy for me, but I am very particular about marinating it in an acid (at least italian dressing or something like that) for a LONG time (12hrs or more) and I used to only eat well done steak, now I cook it medium because its not as tough. I think I was about 2 months out when I tried it for the first time and it was fine. Every person is different though.
