For those of you that had rny open, how long after surgery were u in pain?  I've heard several different stories. Someone told me it was the worst pain they've ever felt others told me it was painful but tolerable.......how about you?

I had open RNY on 10/1/07 took me a little while to get back on my feet. But the pain was not that bad. Just keep the taking the meds. I was afraid of the pain but it was nothing. Don't dwell on it. I think sometimes people make things worse on themselves by dwelling on it. Keep your mind occupied by other things.  You'll do fine.  Tommi

Hi Bobbie,  I agree with Tommi don't let yourself make it worse than it is, I also had open and yes it hurts but I also had 2 c-sections and took care of new born babies afterwords so think of it that way! you'll be fine. You will need a support person to help you get up and down a little for the first couple days after you get home. I weighed 344 at  my surgery so It was already hard for me to get up alone lol If you make arrangements you will be fine, I think 1 week out and I was cleaning. I know I was walking 3 weeks out and I was walking 2 miles a day! more than before my surgery.   Good luck and stay positive! Listen to your docs,  Estelle

My surgery was done open and they gave me an epidural right before they knocked me out and I had almost no pain. I never even went on a pain pump, i just had a few pain shots and then a couple of days of pills then on to tylenol. and i have a pretty low pain tolerence.

You've got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it. It's called perseverance. -Lee Iacocca

Thanks for all the responses, ladies.   I think you are exactly right, don't dwell on it.  I will try my hardest to not think about it.   Thanks again!
