Stephen Sondheim is my Broadway god, I love all his work. I also liked "Wicked," which doesn't surprise me, since the fellow who did the music also did "Pippin," which is another favorite.
I'm not a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber, all his stuff sounds the same to me.
I don't think the fellow at the pool has a waterproof IPod, I was reading in the Sunday paper that a waterproof case is available for the IPod that protects it while swimming (although they don't recommend using it if you scuba dive). If memory serves, the case wasn't outrageously expensive, either.
