Did you have to delay surgery due to...?

Thanks Jeaninine, Well the appointement was scheduled for yesterday.  I  got up a few hours early, not a small task for a sleep apneac without a machine yet.  And braved the  weather, a normal 20 minute drive on the freeway turned into over an hour.  Plus paying close attention to  traffic announcments to avoid accidents and trouble spots.  I got there  only 5 minutes late by my watch and the whole waiting room was quiet.  i  was thinking  geez they are really good on time you would think that there would be one or 2 other people left, since they do the intake group style then shuffle you off to your own surgeon after a little information class on all the dangers of bypass. I  was only 5 minutes late Well I asked the receptionist where to go and I  got the look of " say what? you don't have an appointment today , surely you jest."  I kindly explained that I  was told Jan. 29 at 8:00 am.  She looked at my chart and on the computer, and said well I  can see why you would think that,  Dr. MCKinaly cleared hiis schedule today to be with his wife and newborn twin, and someone forgot to call you to tell you it was cancelled. She was sorry and felt bad. End result,  my new appointment is not until Febrary 19 at 8:00 am.   Tht's 5 days after my appointment to get and learn how to use the CPAP.  So after  getting insurance approval and what have you  it will be at least 4-6 weeks  beyond that before surgery. So as fate would have it I guess my big concern at the beginning is now  gone. I will keep you posted on my progrees, if and when it occurs.  I'm disappointment that I  didn't get my appointment yesterday, but I take comfort in the fact that the Doctor has a sense of life balance. That in my opinion makes him a better person on the whole.   (I'm sure his wife was thrilled to have the help, if even for jsut one day.)

Oh gosh....thats awful!! All the build up and let down because of someone's neglect in letting you know about the cancellation!!  Tell them to take the $$$$ you wasted on gas off the MD appointment charge!!!  I hate that when MD's just shrug off expenses we have to incur due to THEIR mistakes! Oh well...keep a positive attitude best you can.  Will you have to be on a liquid diet before surgery? Stick with this board and you will love us!    Jeanine

I have been told by others who have gone through this surgical center that they put you on a 2 week liquid diet.  I've already been searching out good protein drinks and stuff to get ready for that.  My brother likes to bulk up with protien so he drinks the stuff al lthe time, but he gets some ofthe grossest tasting and textured stuff.  I think texture is more important than taste to me, but if it makes me gag I know I  can't drink it for long. I have been trolling the main board for a few eeks now, trying to get educated, but think this board will help me more with some of the specifics that as a SMO I need to address as well. Thanks for being so friendly and welcoming!

I was on Medifast for 6 weeks before surgery. I'm pretty sure you can buy that online.  It mixed well with ice & water, was creamy and tasted pretty good. It comes in Chocolate and Vanilla. I changed the flavor of the vanilla with extracts and sugar free coffee syrups like Davinci.  No grit or yukky  taste. Toss out questions or concerns any time.   Jeanine
