I can't believe it, I actually did it...

I signed up for an Adventure Race! Actually, a camp for adventure races. I know I've mentioned here before that I wanted to do a race, it was actually my main goal when I had surgery. I found out about a 3 day camp that trains you in the skills you need for a race, and today I officially registered! My dream might actually come true! For those of you who don't know what an adventure race is, it's like a triathalon but has different legs that is mostly focused on mountaineering skills (ie mountain biking, rappelling, kayaking, trekking, etc) plus you have to be able to navigate to each leg -they just give you the coordinates at the beginning of the race and you have to find it. It's crazy, and I'm so excited!! I'm already trying to plan a training schedule that will get me ready for the camp (it's in March). I'm adding workouts and I'm going to add biking (bike training is all day! My butt is going to be so sore). So the next 6 weeks are going to be crazy, but oh so much fun This is the one dream that I have always held onto, long before my surgery. I just can't believe it is coming true. There are times when I tell myself I can't do something, then I remind myself of all I have accomplished and realize I can do ANYTHING I put my mind too. It's so liberating to feel that confident... what a difference 2 years can make!!

Congratulations!  I'm so excited for you!!  You mentioned the adventure race when we met.  I am so impressed that you are physically able to do something like that now, and even more impressed with you having the guts to follow your dreams.  WTG!

I have an acquaintance in Atlanta who does extreme sports.  Her idea of a good time is to run the Ironman. I'm really excited for you!  I'll be on the sidelines handing you water and cheering you on while I hold my parasol.  Kix

I'm super excited for you, PJ, and I look forward to hearing about your training efforts, and ultimately your race experience.  Is there a website where we can read about what you've signed on for?  It sounds super fun!!!   Congrats on moving forward with another dream :-) Kellie

Thanks Kellie   Here's the link to the website - I can't believe it is only 6 weeks away. I'm having to figure out a way to add more workouts to my schedule, it's going to be interesting. http://www.gravityplay.com/campxstream/index.html Luckily they split you up by your skill level and I am most definitely a beginner. I'm also excited for navigation, that is something I have wanted to learn for a while. It's great for hiking when you make a wrong turn

PJ -- I can tell how excited you are -- if you listen close, you can hear the applause I am giving you from Oregon -- wish we all could be there at the finish line in March to cheer when you cross. To tackle a long-held goal like that is just terrific. Shirley
