I bought some this past week but forgot about it until tonight.  Its going to expire soon so I need some ideas on how to drink it.  Tonight I put SF vanilla in it (decent), and I can tell it would make an excellent smoothies if I had a blender, but does anyone happen to have kefir recipes in their arsenal?  I was thinking about marinating some chicken in it with curry powder and then grilling it.  It works for yoghurt.

Its a fermented milk product, like yogurt but thinner and in my opinion less sour.  Its a really thick liquid, and I kind of like it, but I've mostly bought it for the probiotics since I can't stand yogurt.  Its also a more complex culture, more different kinds of organisms.  I am going to use it to make chicken tandoori - someone on the rny board gave me a recipe.

Hi Jenn, Sounds interesting.  I make a combo of ff sour cream and lf mayo with wasabi paste sauce for salmon and chicken.  I tried using the greek yogurt and it came out really good.  Where can I find this product.  Would it be in the regular grocery store in the dairy case or do you have to get from a specialty store. Thanks. Jeanne

Its in most regular grocery stores, with the yogurt and yogurt smoothies.

Hi Jennifer, I drink Kefir almost every day.  We "make our own" with the Kefir grains, and I add 2 1/2 - 3 cups of non-fat milk to it, and 12 - 20 hours later, I have Kefir.  I strain it, put the grains back in the jar with more milk, and make a protein smoothie out of the kefir.  I make one big enough for my husband and me and I add 4 scoops of EAS whey protein to the kefir, along with some type of frozen fruit.   Since I've been drinking it (we started in August), my fungal rashes have almost completely gone away.  I have saved some of the "yogurt" from it and my son has made frozen yogurt from it, but I have not used it for anything else.   My understanding is that if you heat it too much, you will kill the beneficial bacteria found in the kefir.   I have done a google search on kefir and found some other ideas, but most of them are smoothies.

Cool, I''m glad to hear what a big difference its making for you.  I was reading about kefir grains also.  Yeah, cooking it will kill it, but I just wanted to use up this quart.
