Gym is Open (Thursday 1/17)

I'm so sleepy!  Even so, the gym is open. I plan to do killer treadmill and the dreaded aquacise class.  I hate the class, the teacher blows.  She spends so much time socializing during class that the class is poorly led.  Others carry on side conversations, so those of us who are really interested in a workout don't get one.  I'd quit going, but my sister won't attend by herself (I'm glad not to have that affliction). What did you do to move your body today? Kix

You're a good sister to attend the class to keep your sister going.  I did an aquasize class a couple summers ago so my roommate would go too.  We're looking for a new indoor location that offers a class or two we could both attend.   I haven't done any exercise yet today, but my plan is to do my lower body workout at lun*****luding some core work.  Then I'll go back to the gym after work for cardio - probably rowing machine and bike again, but may spend some time on the stair-stepper if my legs aren't too sore from the lower body strength training session.   Good luck to everyone finding the time, motivation and energy to move it today!!! I don't know if I'm such a good sister or its the fact that I don't want to look at her sour face if I don't go.  I actually prefer exercising by myself, then I can go at my own pace and not feel stifled by my companion. Evil loner Kix

I'm sticking with "good sister" not "evil loner," in part because I'd generally fall into the evil loner category when it comes to working out.  I like to work out at the gym with other people around, but I do not like to actually work out with anyone else.  I like to go at my own pace and listen to the music on my iPod.  My workout time is often the only time during the day that I take for myself, so I really want to enjoy my "alone" time.  It just gives me time to think (or not think) and clear my head....   Kellie

You are such a good sister - i didn't inherit that "won't go by myself gene" either. I LOVE to do things alone. My old college roommate would get so mad at me because she hated going anywhere alone and would nag me to death to go with her. Me, being the stubborn a** that I am, always refused and never gave in. It just drove me crazy that she couldn't go by herself - I mean come on, if I don't have anything to study why do I need to go to the library, just to hold her hand??? And the stubborn gene I have... got it from my dad, and although I sometimes have to watch myself I love that I got that from him. I am not easily persuaded to do something I don't want to do and for that I am eternally thankful to him. Today is my last day of morning freedom before school starts, so I took advantage of it with my workout. I did the usual 10 minutes of warmup with walking, 30 minutes of weights, but then upped my sprints to 45 minutes and at one point was running at 6.5 mph. It is so nice to see improvement as each week progresses. My goal is to be at 6.0 mph continously (a 10 minute mile) by the time I run the 10K Bolder Boulder in May. If you run it under an hour, you get listed in the paper and I really want to say I did that. Tonight I might just do jazzercise with a couple of friends - they have been wanting me to try it out but honestly, I want to go see "Juno". Since I had such a hard workout this morning I just might do the movie instead. Good job everyone on working so hard on your workouts!!! I am perpetually amazed and blessed by all of your hard work and dedication!!

PJ, I wish I was more stubborn.  I'm pretty stubborn about most things, but there are times when I just figure it isn't worth the battle.  I need to learn to be more like you! What is it about people who can't do stuff by themselves?  My sister says it's because she likes having someone to share the experience with, chat with, etc.  Me, if I feel the urge to chat while I'm traveling solo, I strike up friendships with folks I meet along the way. I flip flopped again and decided I did not want to go to school after all.  It was a good decision.  I was mostly pi##ed off at the Red Rocks online class site; once I went over to the college, I was shocked to see that folks actually had their acts together.  Unfortunately, the EMP program is all online. I hope you went to see "Juno."  It's a terrific movie! Running the Bolder Boulder?!  Woohoo!  I'd be impressed if I could just walk the darn thing.  I would also like to do the Bay to Breakers in San Francisco, but I'm nowhere near ready for that this year.  Maybe next year. Does 20 laps around the nurse's station count?? LOL I'm back home now and feeling fine, just taking it easy propped up in my recliner. Soon, hopefully, I'll be back on the treadmill at least... Hugs,

Wow, that was quick!  Did they give you time to actually come around after the anesthesia, or did they just tell your hubby to back up into the ambulance bay and load you into the trunk while you were still sleeping it off?  20 laps around the nurses' station certainly does count, not only for exercise, but for other health benefits post-op.  WTG! Not much activity for me.  We went shopping for a while this afternoon, and we were going to go bowling tonight but then I thought that it might make my stomach issue worse, if it were, say, a hernia.  Still waiting on Cobra.  *grumble*  I looked at some short-term insurance plans today and applied for one - a lot cheaper than Cobra - but it will be 2 to 4 days before I get an answer on approval, and the insurance isn't all that great (pretty minimal until you meet the deductible, so i chose the one with the lowest deductible) but I am mainly just wanting insurance in case I end up back in the hospital.  I'm willing to pay for this round of blood work and office visit out of pocket if I have to.  Until I am feeling truly ok again I will probably go with fairly minimal physical activity beyond walking, just to be on the safe side.
