Gym is Open (Friday 1/11)
Good Morning Kix!
I'm sorta bummed out this morning.... I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner.... but it just dawned on me this morning that even though I'll only be off work 2 weeks, it will probably be at least 4 to 8 before I can start going back to the gym.... sigh....
5 min elliptical
30 mins lower body weight training
30 mins treadmill

Funny, I was thinking the same thing last night as I pondered the possibility of getting plastics done.
When I had Blobby lopped off last spring, I wasn't allowed to do any kind of exercise that would pull or shear the leg, which pretty much ruled out everything except arm bike.
Perhaps you can start back at least doing slow treadmill way before 8 weeks. It depends on how fast you heal. My thigh was a slow healer, probably because my thighs are large and the blood flow wasn't optimal at the time.
Are you getting excited about the TT? As for the hernia, is it painful or just one of those nuisance things that needs to be done before it becomes emergent?

Just increase your treadmill by two minutes each week! It won't seem like much of a change in the short-run, but over the course of 4-6 weeks you'll bump your time up 8-12 minutes. That's what I did when working up to longer cardio sessions; the slower acclimation period worked well for me.
I did the evil lower body workout again today. You know the one that made it hard for me to walk or stand up or sit down or climb stairs on Tuesday and Wednesday. What a glutton for punishment I must be. But I'm hoping that if I keep doing it, that within 4-6 weeks it won't hurt so much anymore. Here's the routine:
4 minute warm-up on stationary bike
hip adductor - 15 reps @ 60#, 12 reps @ 65#, 10 reps @ 70#
hib abductor - 15 reps @ 95#, 12 reps @ 100#, 10 reps @ 105#
leg press - 15 reps @ 135#, 12 reps @ 140#, 10 reps @ 145#
calf raises - 20 reps x2 @ 140#
step ups - 8x2 per side
stationary lunges - 10x2 per side holding 5# in each hand
plie squats - 15x5 holding 15# weight
ball squats - 8x2 hold 4 kg. medicine ball
ball crunches - 25x2
supermans - 10x2
planks - 2 @ 20 seconds, 2 @ 30 seconds
I followed this with good lower body stretches, especially my quads. Also took 2 tylenol when I got back to my office; am hoping the stretching and tylenol will help minimize the muscle aches and pains I had earlier this week!!!
Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed this. I'm glad it's the end of the week. I'm amazed at what my body can do. And I wore a new sports bra that almost makes the girls look perky (well, as perky as they can look, anyway). So it felt good -

I did 45 minutes of killer treadmill today, woohoo! It felt great! Putting some new tunes on the IPod helped a lot, and I watched the noon news (thanks to closed captioning) while I was there.
The fat burning program measures one's target heart rate, and I guess my heart is more fit now because the incline kept adjusting upward to get my heart beating faster, at one point it had me at a 15% incline! Yikes, I'm not a mountain goat!
I had a good workout and perspired, which I guess are the two most important things when exercising.

PS, this Bally's has a pool, so I inquired as to what temperature they keep the pool water. 79 degrees! AIYEE! I guess I'm the only person in America who doesn't want to participate in a polar bear pageant when she swims.
Well, I was planning on doing my long run day today, but my stomach had other plans. I have noticed that when I run it really gets everything 'moving' and I have to be careful what I eat before (that's why I always eat pudding - it works the best). This morning nothing was helping, so I opted to walk for 40 minutes instead - I varied it from 4.0-4.3 and a 10-15% incline. It was a good workout.
Since my stomach is feeling better I plan on running tonight, hopeful 4 miles. I don't usually do very well exercising at night but we'll see how I do.
Tomorrow is a day of snowshoeing and I am so looking forward to being outside!!
Good for you Patty! Do you think the exercise is helping with your depression? I know in the past when I have had some episodes (they use to happen a lot, not so much anymore) that actually getting myself out of bed and moving was tough - I'm just so impressed that you are regularly exercising! That takes a lot of discipline.
