Bad Habits Resurface

Frozen twinkies and ding dongs are to die for - in fact they almost helped to kill me! Funny but I honestly don't miss those things anymore. The one and only thing I miss is a sandwich, a nice corned beef on rye, or a turkey on sourdough. Of course missing those is only in fleating moments. Living life is so much better! Most normal WLS patients can have sandwiches, but I have one grouchy pouchy, so no bread. My Dr's goal for me was to never see "2" as the first number in my weight again, I happily made that goal at my year check-up. I had my own goal set at 150, but unless I have plastics that most likely won't happen. My DR told me I should re-think that goal, so we came up with the 170.  I am thrilled to be alive let alone 7 pounds from a goal! Clean the cupboards, throw it all away and don't buy more, remember it's all for a better you, and heck, while your at it, why not help out those around you too? I really do love being able to be honest and others knowing just what your going through! Thanks for this post.

I haven't had Twinkies since 1977...seriously.  My daughter reminded me of our carpet picnics when she was little and we ate Twinkies while Mom watched her soaps.  I should have been outdoor playing with her, getting physically active for myself as well as her.  I hope my new example isn't to late. Truth is...now Twinkies and stuff like that nauseate me. My biggest weaknesses are homemade mac & cheese, pizza & tuna casserole.  Its amazing how much I enjoy cottage cheese with diced pears these days. Whodda Thunk?  Maybe you'd share with us what you mean when you say Twinkies almost killed you. I'll bet there are alot ot lurkers out there who would benefit from your story (only if you feel comfortable sharing it)  HUGS  Jeanine

I have no problems sharing - I'd buy twinkies and ding dongs and freeze them thinking I'd only eat a couple a day if they were frozen. It didn't take long to realize they tasted so much better frozen! I remember going through an entire box in one day , feeling guilty and wanting to eat even more. I would buy a box of each everytime I went to the grocery store, heck I even got the girls at work to eat them so we had boxes there too. Those were just a few of the things I ate during the day, none being good or healthy in any way. I was a total sweet addict. Sometimes I'd dream of something like a certain cookie and if I didn't get up in the morning, get dressed and go to the store to buy it I'd go nuts thinking about it (I never got up from sleeping in the middle of the night to eat though). I'd eat an entire pack or oreos, or some other cookie and get rid of the package before anyone saw it.  Eating like that for so many years nearly killed me. I weighed 374 pounds, diabetic, high cholesteral, borderline high blood pressure, couldn't move, ached everywhere, I sat on the couch as often as possible and hated life. I was miserable and so were those around me. After hearing I was approved for surgery I decided that day my life would change.  I have silly new rules that I live by and my family does too. If I ask for food and I can't get off my arse to get it myself then I don't need it, and I refuse to eat anything that I have to drive-thru to get. If I'm that hungry I can walk in! Life is so much better now. I would have never belived it would be like this 18 months ago.

Thanks so much for sharing that.  You have made drastic changes in your head and your size. I am so impressed!  What a success story!  I went to my hair salon today to get a haircut. I hadn't been there since first week in Nov. All the girls there were making over me like I was a new person! It felt good, but I couldn't help thinking, if they see a change after only about 40 lbs...IMAGINE when I'm down twice that amount!!  CAN'T WAIT!!  HUGS  Jeanine
