Gym is Open (Friday 1/4)
One of my rec centers thinks that 80 degrees is a perfectly fine temperature for their pool. They have a lot of swim meets there, and I guess the high school kids have tougher hides than me. Another rec center closed their pool indefinitely because the heater keeps breaking down and thus the pool temperature can't be regulated.
Were you able to find another method of exercise? Brisk walking at the mall (no shopping, though!) is a good alternative, and one that many folks do here in Denver when it's too cold to walk in the park.

I am very irritated and bummed today - my husband is basically about to get fired, and while doesn't agree, I'm pretty sure he had it coming. Once he decides he hates a job he is very difficult to work with (and live with). I am worried and hope he finds something else before he gets canned. I am also hoping he can use up a lot of the 21 days of paid vacation he has before he gets canned. And of course when he gets canned we will lose our gym membership too.
At least I am not tempted to eat - I am nauseas actually. That's a new stress response.
I went to the gym this morning since we may not have it much longer - I did 10 minutes flat on the treadmill then 5 minutes at 2% incline, 10 minutes at 6% incline, 5 minutes at 2% incline, and 10 more minutes flat. Then I coughed a lot and went home.
My sister basically hates her job but stays because she makes really good money (and I don't blame her, but why take it out on me, I'm not her overlord!). I'm sorry to hear your husband is in a similar situation. If he gets canned, will they have to pay him for unused vacation days? If not, I suggest starting his vacation immediately.
You did a lot on the treadmill! That's pretty good, especially since you have wonky ankles. Have you tried using the sugar free Robitussin? Worked like a dream for me, along with the sugar free Ricola cough/throat drops. Just don't eat a bunch of the drops at once -- I did that and discovered the package instructions are truthful when they say eating a lot of drops at once can cause a "laxative" effect. Yes, they surely do.

I've got a bit of a cold and am super tired, so I skipped the gym at lunch today and just rested in the quiet room. (My office has a small room with comfy chairs and privacy screens where you can go if you don't feel good.) I'm actually feeling a bit better, so think resting was the right choice. I don't actually feel all that bed compared to what other folks have been going through with colds and stomach flus, but I'm really, really, really tired.
I'm planning to go to Bally's this weekend. My roommate and I joined the Discovery Health body challenge online, whi*****ludes 8 free weeks at Bally's. I've been toying with the idea of buying a second gym membership close to home so I can workout on the weekends. If I get in a nice groove with the free Bally's membership, I think I'll pay for a membership at our local rec center (which is much cheaper than Bally's!!!!).

Kellie, sorry to hear you are sick. Your office sounds really nice -- at my last job, we didn't even have a place to eat if we brought our lunch. Cheap b*****ds.
I also signed up for the DHC, mostly for the free weeks at Bally's. I'm curious to see if they are any better than the rec center, and also, sometimes I'd like to exercise with folks who aren't seniors or married with kids.
I have my coupon, so I guess I'll just pop over there this weekend and get set up. Bally's isn't as close to my house as the rec centers, though.

I went to the mall and walked one mile (it nearly killed me, too, am I out of shape or what?). I also went to the rec center, but could only manage 15 minutes of treadmill (6 minutes at a 9% incline) and 10 minutes of inline skating machine. I also did the ab machine and the lower back machine, plus one of the arm machines that I didn't do yesterday.
I also joined the Discovery Health Challenge, and will give Ballys a whirl during the free weeks. Unless it's something ultra special, I probably won't swap out my (currently) free membership at the rec center for something that requires me to pay.
I also captulated and registered for the first of my classes in Emergency Management. I was using lack of funds as an excuse, but they offered me a monthly payment plan, making it affordable. Darn them!
