A NEW drama
Hi Everybody,
I debated as to whether I should share my story..but here goes. As many of you know, I had plastics done (panni) October 2nd. I had about a 2 week recovery time and was back to work...no drama this time (my open rny) Well, my son who is 25, had wls-lap about 18 months before me. He did so well with his that I decided to go for it myself. This time, my son saw how good I did with recoveryfrom my plastics, so he went for an appt with the plastic surgeon. He had insurance that wouldn't cover his tummy tuck and breast reduction. He opted to pay this out of pocket. His surgery was Dec. 12th, and he came back home to stay with us so I could help him with his bandaging and record all his drains etc. We traveled up north to spend Christmas with my husband's family. The day after Christmas, we packed up to go back because I had a really bad feeling about his incision. We got him into the doc on Thurdsday and he was admitted for emergency surgery. We were told that he would be reopened and a kinda antibiotic powerflush would be done...no big issue..done in 15 minutes. Not so! It turns out that a roll of dead cells (fat) had become infected and had to be removed. He came out with a gapping hole (hip to hip) the size of the Grand Canyon ha-ha! Right now he is in a cardiac unit (weird heartbeat) lousy nursing care (everyone is afraid to change the dressing) so we are basically ignored. I am beside myself. We are waiting for his insurance to come by and let us know if he qualifys for home-care nursing and/or the WOUND-VAC. I had this same aftercare treatment after my gastric bypass drama. I declared to my family..no more surgeries for this family...not even a hang-nail ! Please send us some prayers and good thoughts our way. I took a look at the wound that I am gonna have to pack and clean twice a day, and had to leave the room to
It looks like this could go on for 6 weeks..and that means 6 weeks for short-term disability for him. 2008 gotta be better right?

Oh Ginger! I am so sorry about your son. A friend of mine had an infection in the fat cells also, and it was very serious. She was hospitalized for some time and has a very large scar. Her infection was after open RNY. The wound vac and all of that stuff came in to play for her too.
You poor things! Its a good thing you took him to the hospital when you did though! I hope insurance comes through on this one! Best Wishes and HUGE HUGS!

Thank you Cindy and everybody,
Yesterday was quite the bummer. We had to hurry-up and wait all day for the wound-vac people that never came. With this being new year's eve (all so my hubby's b-day) we needed to get home before the "crazys" when out on the road celebrating. It broke my heart to leave him there alone. The good news is that the surgeon showed up after we left and measured the wound and wrote the orders for him to go home. They also moved him out of the cardiac unit yeah! Hope today we can bring him home..but it's pretty uncertain. Thank you so much for your good thought and prayers..I think they are working. Thanks for being there for me as always...thick and not quite thin!!!
Hugs,
Ginger
