Well, Foxfart!

I took a state exam for a Workers Comp job last Friday.  The test was trickier than I thought, with lots of logic and pattern identification questions, not to mention math. My scores came today.  I scored an 86, which puts me at number 14 on the list, which means I won't get called for an interview unless sudden death attacks those who placed 1-11 on the list. Sigh.  Guess I'll keep on trying.  I should be glad I got an 86, those logic problems were really difficult! Kix

Can you retake it? That might be a possibility, since now you know what to expect it should go a bit easier. Although I think 86 is terrific! Just not what you wanted, I know. But you never know what can happen, all those people could miss the phone call for the job and then all of a sudden you name is next on the list!

I can probably retake it the next time they offer it -- it's one of those where they offer the test because they have a job opening.  Guess what I need to do is get one of those exam-type books from the library and learn how to do pattern recognition. B+ Kix

Sorry you didn't do as well as you'd hoped.  Are there test prep materials you can use and re-take the test again?  There are lots of logic questions on the LSAT (the test you have to take for admission to law school), but I'm not sure if they are the same type of questions you'd see on this type of state exam.  It is definitely possible to improve your score on this type of test by knowing what types of questions are asked, and the different types of logic that are being tested.   Keep trying, girl!  You'll wind up in the right place eventually - just have patience... Oh, God, don't remind me about the LSATs!    I took the LSAT in 1979 and made the mistake of drinking large quanitities of coffee the night before.  I thought I'd explode!  I did well enough on the LSAT to get into Boalt, after all that, turns out I hated law school.  Go figure. I should probably bone up on logic problems and pattern recognition.  You know, the stupid question where they give you a series of letters (none of which make sense) and you're supposed to figure out what the next sequence will be.  Ugh. The young girl sitting next to me finished her exam in half the time it took me to finish mine.  I felt like a contestant on that game show, "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?"  Kix
