Dear maddie, When my surgery got closer i was just sure i would not make it. I was 470, 59 yrs old a lot of co morbities, and just not in good health !!!! I have had 2 knee replacements and severe arthtitis all over ! But thank God i did make it and it changed my life from a wheel chair to being able to walk more at 60 yrs old than I have had for 25+ years. Just have faith it will work out. If we did not have a fear we would not be taking it seriously. I have lost 172 lbs and I Know I could not even pick that weight up. But yet my body was carrying that around for years !!!! Let us know how your doing after surgery. Pam

Hi Maddie, I'm so sorry for your pain!  I am relatively young and wasn't having a lot of joint pain yet - mild back pain and occasional popping and grinding knees that would ache a little when they were stiff.  I still have back pain, in fact its possibly worse but the knee pain is non-existent.  No more popping and grinding and stairs are easier (I had a problem going downstairs before).  Don't worry, you'll make it to surgery.  You've made it this far and you'll keep trucking.  Kix is right, you might feel pretty poopy after surgery, and wonder if you made the right choice.  But it passes and the world opens up for you in so many ways - probably in a lot of ways you didn't even think about or expect.  Its right around the corner!  I'm excited for you! Best wishes, Jenn

Hi Maddie,

I'm counting down to that same date too! But I'm not as far along - it is my info session with the surgeon of my choice! So you are so lucky, you are sooo close to your spot on the losers' bench.

Even as I'm approaching that 1st milestone of my journey, I get discouraged. As I'm trying to increase my physical endurance, I'm having so much resulting pain that at times I just want to climb into a power chair or else stop going to work and become house-bound instead.

I don't know if this is an inappropriate comment, but one thing you may experience after your surgery is a general overall lessening of what I call Body Burden pain. The meds you will be taking for surgical after care will probably also help your knees. And perhaps by the time you are off post-surgical meds, you may be down enough in weight to feel less pain.

I had that happen to me a while back when I had to have an emergency umbilical hernia repair. The pain meds were so effective that my feet and ankles didn't hurt for the 1st time in ages! LOL.

Hang in there, sweetie!

I'll be as close behind you as I can be.

Patty

I understand what you are going through.  My surgery is Monday and I'm so anxious for it to come.  I want it over already.  I'm going to be praying for you.  We'll be just about a block apart.
