Oy, The Day I Had!
What a day!
It started out well enough. I went to a different mall today to walk and to get my sister a holiday gift. After looking through many stores (and stopping to drool at all the lovely clothes at Talbot's that fit but I cannot afford), I found some camisoles that I think will work out for her. Yay!
Walk done and mission accomplished, I commenced running the other 85 errands I had on my "to do" list. Errand 84 was to stop at Costco to get gas for the car, and Errand 85 was to stop at Vitamin Cottage to pick up several packs of the ground buffalo patties I like to eat. At this point, I hadn't had lunch yet and was pretty hungry, but figured I could hold out until I finished my errands.
It was nearly 3 PM when I arrived at Costco. I stopped the car, turned it off, pumped gas, got back in the car, turned the key, and... nothing. No click, no whirr, nothing.
Of course, stupid me, I keep thinking about getting AAA but haven't done so yet. I called my sister, who has AAA, but she was in training and I couldn't reach her. I finally called the dealer where I take the car for checkups, repairs, etc., and got their contracted tow truck to come get me.
In the meantime, I'm sitting at Costco blocking the gas pump and people are starting to give me hard looks. The elderly gent who works as an attendant came to see if I needed something. I told him my car wouldn't start and I called a tow truck. He said, "A tow truck won't be able to get in here. Let me push your car over to the parking lot." The man was easily in his 70s, but he rounded up one of the shopping cart wranglers and the two of them pushed my car to a clear spot easily accessible for the tow truck. The elderly gent also kept an eye out for me (he was trying to be coy, but I could tell****il the tow truck arrived.
Tow trucks are expensive! $100 to tow me to the dealer. Turns out I needed a new battery, which I thought was the problem when the car wouldn't turn over at all. This is my second Honda, and in my earlier Honda, the battery also died one day without any advance warning. Another $100 for battery and labor, and all was well.
In the meantime, my sister had gotten my message at work and came to the Honda dealer in her hybrid Toyota, which was amusing because all the Honda techs gave her stink eye when she pulled up.
We didn't get home until after 6 PM, and I gobbled my remaining buffalo patty so fast I'm pretty sure it's stuck in my aorta. I think I need to keep protein bars in the car trunk for such an emergency.
All's well that ends well, and if the car had to stop, I'm glad it did relatively close to home and the Honda dealer. Had it died earlier in the day, the tow bill would have been much higher because I was on the other side of town most of the day. And, I won $100 on my scratcher lotto ticket today, so it will cover some of my unexpected expense. Woohoo!
Kix

Sounds like quite a day, Kix! Batteries always pick a bad time to crap out; mine started to peter out once when I was coming down Vail Pass. Luckily, I was able to make it to my friend's place before it totally died! Of course, the battery cost me twice as much in Vail as it would have in Denver, but at least I didn't have the towing expense.
Nice to hear that some folks at the gas station were willing to help you. Restores a bit of our faith in the human race -
Hope today is a better day!!!

That was what happened to me a few months ago at the doctor's office - the battery just up and died - on a 2005 car. Boo. I had a baaad sunburn from waiting for the tow truck. Car trouble bites the big one.
hey there
Wow, battery issues, sounds familiar on my end, I had to replace one last weekend, went to start my car, nothing, my goofy butt did not even realize the fact that I could not use my door opener, but I had to use the key to open the door that should have told me something there. But like the others said, good thing someone was looking out for you and Congrats on 100.00 scratch off...
