I looked at today's date and realize in ten days, I will be 50 years old.    Why does that sound so horrifically elderly?  My brain is still as immature as it was when I was 16, so I don't feel old at all.  Not only that, I watch the seniors at the rec center, some of whom are in their 80s, and I see that I still have a long life ahead of me, thanks to WLS. The gym is open.  I need to start ramping up my exercise, but I'm not sure my lungs are fully recovered enough from my cold to stand it.  I plan to walk today, and I'd like to get to the rec center and do something.  I don't think my schedule is very full (I do need to find my sister a holiday gift, she wants camisoles that no one sells any more -- some kind of microfiber fabric without a built-in bra).  I have to find her something, she won't throw the old ones away, and she's starting to look like a hobo in her ratty undergarments!  Our mother and grandmother would climb out of their graves if they knew she was going out of the house in raggedy underwear. What fun things will you do to move your body today? Kix

Karen, I don't look 50 in my face, but the minute I take my clothes off, I look 75!  I imagine the guard is grateful to have someone to talk to at 3 AM.  If I tried to exercise at 3 AM, I'd be snoring by 5 AM.  How do you manage it? Kix

No tears for turning 50, Kix, unless they are tears of joy for how much more living you have to do!  You have a long, interesting life ahead of you, I'm sure!!!   Ease back into the exercise thing - nothing worse that sounding like you are coughing up a lung at the gym.  People look at you like you've got the plague, and then they disinfect the machine you were using four times before they will touch it!  Your body will tell you what it can handle; just be attentive to the signals it gives you.   Love the comments about your sister and her raggedy underwear.  I'm sure she's be scandalized to know you're talking about her skivvies with your online buds.  Frankly, that makes it even more funny for me!  Good luck finding what she's looking for - it's frustrating when they stop making something you like.   I'll stop rambling now and get to the point of this post - exercise.  Today will be a 2-a-day for me.  I'll lift weights at lunch, then go back to the gym for cardio after work.  I know I'm NOT going to want to go back at the end of the day, so I parked my car by the gym instead of by my office (it's about a 5-7 minute walk).  Anyway, since I have to walk past the gym to get to my car, I've got a better chance of making the cardio session as well.  It's hard to go to the gym after work when it's cold and dark outside; I just want to go home and snuggle up under a blanket with my cat!   Good luck to everyone finding the time, energy, and motivation to move it today! Kellie, I wish people at my rec center would be more religious about disinfecting the equipment after they use it.  I'm pretty sure I caught this hantavirus from one of those lazy men who slobber all over the machines and then walk away without wiping things off.   I finally found her some camisoles at Macy's (after checking at Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman's, Kohl's, and other stores in the mall).  I'm not sure they are exactly what she wants, but it's good enough for jazz. Do cats actually snuggle? Kix

Swam my usual 40 lengths - over a half mile. Used both the big & the little flippers. I love my "pool toys" - it makes it really FUN!

40 minutes in the pool, 20 in the hot tub. Ahhhhhh

50 is NOT old. I'm 54.

Given what I've seen on the news the past few days, I thought you'd be swimming down I-5 trying to avoid the flooding.  I lived in Olympia for 2 years (which was two years too long, but that's another story) and I see that both WA and OR are taking quite a beating from the rain.  Were Portland and Salem heavily affected like Olympia and parts south? I love to swim, but I can't stand the cold water at my preferred pool.  I have to swim in the warm water pool.  One is small and often crowded, and the other is a leisure pool that has a big pirate ship in the middle of it, so I have to go when the kids aren't there trying to shoot me with the water cannons! Thanks for asking. It appears to have been much worse in other areas than ours. My boss was up in Seattle on Monday and barely made it back before the twin storms closed down I5 for a while.  Most of the Oregon damage has been in the upper left corner of the state, primarily close to the coast. We're in the Wilamette valley, mid-way between Eugene & Portland. Back to swimming, I agree abou****er temp. The health club I go to has different temps in diff pools too. The warmest are the ones primarily for water aerobics and lessons. The one of those I tried is a bit small for lap swimming. That same facility has a very cold lap pool that all the Master's swimmers love, but is too cold for me. Luckily, the faciity closest to my house has two pools - one outdoor & one indoor. Outdoor is open May thru Sept, is warmer and oddly shaped. It does its job, which I see as keeping the kids out of MY pool during the time they are out of school! LOL I normally swim in a pool warmer than the competitive lap pool but cooler than an exercise pool. Wheh I was growning up, my folks had a smallish backyard pool where I had room to do 3 strokers and then had to turn. Mom and I had many heated discussion about ideal pool temp! (pun intended)
