Weird cravings

Dunny, several of my friends craved green vegetables shortly after surgery.  Me, no.  Just the thought of eating any kind of green vegie was enough to put me off my feed for a couple of days.  I did, however, crave catfish.  I was afraid to try it as a new post-op because I wasn't sure how it would sit with me.  So, there I was, willing to sell my soul to the devil for catfish! Of course, now I'm able to eat catfish without problems, and that includes the hot sauce.  I also enjoy collards along with that catfish. I used to have an addiction to zucchini, but since surgery, I don't like zucchini any more.  I also have lukewarm feelings toward asparagus, and I used to eat asparagus by the handful. I do resemble a goat, though, in the sense that if I don't pluck my chin every couple of days, I have a beard like a goat!   Kix

My best guess would be that your body may want iron.  I did go through a weird craving period after my first RNY.  I had cottage cheese with shredded cheddar cheese and picante sauce every day for lunch for a month.  I still like it but have a lot my variety in my diet.

That's a good guess, my lab work came up low on iron @ 3 months and I am taking a supplement now.  I was thinking iron, calcium, or zinc.  Most of those foods are sources of all 3, but who knows.

Eeek!  Don't even suggest that!  I'll look in to it just in case, but eek!

Also sounds like my SAD, but that's more prevalent in rainy Oregon than Sunny Texas. Winter blues?

But the Iron hypothesis sounds on the money.

I think its mostly hormones and stress, if it doesn't improve I'll think about depression as a possibility.  The moodiness and crying comes and goes - and I could say it comes around the time PMS shows up, although I've never really had PMS, maybe I will now.  The sleepiness is just plain tuckered out-ness.  I sleep normally for a week, while I work a lot, and then for a day I sleep it off.  I am supposed to up my B-12 as per surgeon's instructions yesterday.  He also gave me a B-12 shot, and told me I don't have the nice rosey glow back yet that I had when we met.   I'm going to start a better quality vitamin (bariatric advantage) and he also agreed I shouldn't start cholesterol meds yet.  As for the cravings, he said it wasn't unheard of and that many people do get interested in veggies.  Since I want these strong flavors he thought it might be a little bit of pica too - iron craving.  As for the headache I can't get rid of all week, no one has a great suggestion but I'm going to go to the chiropractor.   I don't feel BAD, I just don't feel GOOD.  I had a lot more pep in my step 100lbs ago.
