Weird cravings

I am wondering what vitamin/mineral I'm short on now because I've been having really odd food cravings.  Radishes, raddichio, figs, any kind of bitter greens, turnips, turnip greens, endive... I don't even like any of these things much except maybe the figs and radishes.  I had a bunch of bean sprouts tonight and they tasted like heaven.  I also tried goji berries because we were at whole paycheck, and they are blech.  I was wondering if any of you noticed strange cravings post-op?  I feel like a goat lately with all these greens I am eating.

I didn't have weird food cravings, but my food preferences definitely changed as I retrained my palate to prefer healthier foods.  I also found myself trying different things as I worked on reintroducing new foods into my routine.   Look on the bright side - at least you are craving things that are good for you!!! Actually my husband calls me Bunny *blush* so my screen name is because I am working on my doctorate - he was trying to call me Doctor Bunny one day but it came out DunnyBoctor so I use that as my screen name.  Maybe all these greens are just my way of living up to the nickname?  I don't mind them, they taste really good, but its just odd.  I absolutely insisted on going to the grocery store last night, even though we went the night before and got the week's food.

i didn't really have any odd cravings, but my likes and dislikes have definitely changed. astonishingly, i now like fruit! previously, the only way i ate fruit was in a pie! there are things i used to like that i just don't care for at all now - like green peppers. it's weird, but i'm just going with it!

Girl, I was craving spinach with garlic on it like a fiend. And then all these veggies as well. No interest in fruit or candy or carbs just the veggies. Crazy?!

i would give my right hand for a salad lol   My doctor wont let me eat raw for 6 months!  and I used to really like all the greens cooked but since my surgery Its not the same. I haven't really craved anything except a mixed green salad with all the cut up veggies  with blue cheese dressing man that sounds good (4 months to go" lol ) and whats with the figs? lol   I dont think I have eaten enough figs in my life to even know if i was craving them.   but can you eat them without dumping?   and what are goji berries?  E

6 months?  I had to wait three for raw lettuce but most other raw veggies were ok at 2 months minus peels and seeds - but its a different surgery too.  Figs don't make me dump, but they do get the other kind of dumping moving so that's a bonus.  I've always liked them, you can only get them fresh for a few weeks per year unless you live in CA, but the dried ones are good - tastes like fig newtons.  Turkish figs are the tastiest.  They are sweet, and they are laxatives (more fiber than prunes even), so one or two at a time is all I would ever dare before surgery or now.  Gogi berries are a newer health food fad - they are these little red berries from Asia that have more antioxidants than most things.  They are from the tomato family - I see them a lot dried and thought I'd try them but I don't really care for them at all.  A weird almost herby flavor with very little sweetness and no "berry" taste to me at all.

You mentioned figs, which brought to mind a memory from my childhood. I grew up in Sacramento, and we had fig trees.  I hated those trees because they were quite prolific and produced so many figs that we couldn't keep up with them.  They'd fall on the lawn and it was my job to pick up the figs off the lawn. One day, my mother made the mistake of telling me I didn't have to pick up any figs that were squished on the lawn, just the intact ones.  Foolish woman.  I went out and stomped those figs so hard that all they were good for were fig newtons.  Of course, my mother caught me stomping on the figs and I was grounded for being insubordinate.  My dad laughed when he came home from work and heard the story from my mother -- he was impressed that I could think outside the box at such a young age. To this day, I dislike figs intensely (except in newtons, which are no longer a part of my food plan). Kix PS:  figs!
