Hi, Lizzie!  There are definitely folks here who understand and can sympathize.  Your stomach may drop further after you lose more weight, but if it hangs as low as you suggest, your insurance may cover a panniculectomy.  That's a type of plastic surgery where they remove the pannus, which is the excess skin you are talking about.  So things may get worse in the short term, but there is a long-term solution available!  Plus, I bet some folks can offer suggestions for support garments you could wear in the interim to make yourself more comfortable... Good luck on your continuing journey -  Kellie

Lizzie, One step at a time. I was BMI 71 I think but I was 59 yrs old and 450 for about the past 30 years. believe me I know my belly is big and low.I have lost nearly 170 lbs and really its not any lower. I will need or want surgery for skin removeal I think. But concentrate on one thing loosing the weight first. The rest will all work out. Good Luck, Pam

My BMI was 66 and my "apron" was not as sever as many I've seen but still my insurance covered it's removal.  Until then I just wore a good foundation garment and was grateful that it was just excess skin and not fat anymore!

Good luck,

Sally

Hi Lizzie,

As Pam suggested do one step at a time.  I had a panni (surgery to remove excess skin, fat and fluid) in 2003.  I was 480 lbs. and my stomach did go to my knees.  The surgeon removed 50 lbs. I managed to keep most of it off until I had my GBS.  I am now in the process of getting my second panni, not a tummy tuck as I still have 120 lbs. to lose to high goal.  The strange thing is that my lower pannus and my mons are what have dropped.    Alot will depend upon your age and your skin tone.  Talk to your GBS, they have seen it all.

My hanging pannus the thing that convinced me that I had a great gastric bypass surgeon and would trust him over and over again.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.

Hi Lizzie,

My Mom and Grandma both had "apron's" that hung to their knees. My Mom lost 175 pounds by eating half of everything she wanted, it took 3 years but her Dr's were so proud of her that they fought for her insurance to cover a tummy tuck.

She had her tummy tuck and a breast reduction over 3 years ago and paid a $5.00 copay for each.

I'm very lucky in that since I've never been pregnant I didn't have the stomach stretched out like they did. A tummy tuck isn't that important to me yet. We all different in how our bodies "come back" after WLS.

HEY LIZZIE,        I CAN TOTALLY SEE WHY YOU WOULD WANT TO KNOW IF THE FUTURE HELD PLASTICS OR NOT... I FOR ONE DIDNT THINK I WOULD BE ONE TO HAVE IT BUT I HAVE TO SAY AFTER ALL IS SAID AND DONE OMG HOW BAD MY STOMACH WAS... YOU CAN SEE MY BEFORE PICS ON MY PROFILE EVEN BEFORE I HAD WLS THAT I HAD A STOMACH THAT WAS SO SO HANGING.. MY MOMA WAS LIKE THAT ALSO. ITS JUST ONE OF THEM THINGS THAT YOU CANT SAY HOW WILL END UP TILL THE TIME  COMES... SO JUST GET THRU THE WEIGHTLOSS FIRST AND THEN SEE WHAT HAPPENS.. DONT GET ALL WORRIED ABOUT IT.. NOT ALOT YOU CAN DO ANYWAY HUH? I HAD PLASTICS THREE MONTHS AGO AND HAVE TO SAY DID A GREAT JOB... NOTHING HANGING ANYMORE BUT BOOBIES AND FACIAL SKIN DROOPIN... LOL... BUT THATS A WHOLE NOTHER SHOW LOL.. HUGS MARGE

Like Lizzie, mine's already slithered South. And my boobs - well, by the time I'm done, I bet I can tie them in a knot!

Right now I just want to stop hurting.

I have no idea whether I will need this panni surgery y'all speak of. I do have a small apron of fat which I have ALWAYS hated. My question is....aren't those plastic surgeries really painful???? I now have 46DDD boobs and I fear these babies are gonna end up lookin like tube socks. The last thing I wanna think about is more painful surgery. How bad is it?????   Jeanine
