Flood in my house

Hi. When we came back from my brother's house last night after 4 nights away our house was like a rain forest. Apparently a hose busted in the dishwasher. The carpet on the upstairs is soaked. The floor has buckled in the hallway outside of the kitchen. The ceiling and walls of the living room dining room kitchen and foyer have water stains from the humidity. The ceiling in the basement has fallen in places. Where it is still up they are bulging. The paint on the ceiling has formed bubbles that are holding trapped water. There is 2 to 3 inches of standing water on the lower level. Everything is wet to the touch. Everything we have in the basement is pretty much damaged or ruined. I filed a claim with our insurance and they sent service master out last night. They put a giant humidifier on in the kitchen and they came back this morning. David and I have to go through everything and estimate costs. What a mess. The service master guy said this is not the worse he has ever seen but is right up there. He said a fire would almost have been better. Can you imagine? I just saw the electricians are here. I guess service master must have called them. OY.  If you want to see a few of the picture I am uploading them onto my profile

Just so you know, David and I are still counting our blessings. We have a lot to be thankful for.

Oh, Jo, I am so sorry for you.  One of my coworkers had water in her basement a couple weeks ago, and another coworker had about a foot of water last year.  It's such a hassle to deal with getting things dried out, what's salvagable, etc.  You're lucky that at least you have water coverage with your insurance; one of these gals did not have insurance.  Luckily, her water damage was caused by a contractor working on water pipes, so he'll have to cover her loss.  But it's still such a time drain to deal with everything.   I wish you and your hubby good luck in getting things dried out and liveable -  Kellie

Yes, we had Victoria with us an when we came back we brought Snoopy. They were really upset cause they could tell something was wrong. They men are here now clearing things out and ripping up the carpet and flooring and walls. It is quite the mess.

I am soo sorry, this happened also to one of my coworkers years ago....She got a beautiful new remolded house out of it, but it was quite a hassle for along time...She said she was just grateful that it was clean water...just imagine those poor people in New Orleans for example.dirty water is much worse...so just keep thinking positive thoughts.

Take care,

Lynn

Oh crap, Jo. It rots that this happened to you. I'm glad you and David have each other for support. Hopefully one of you will find some kind of funny thing in this to laugh about while you go through it. May take a bit, but always helps me cope :) -Julie
Practice safe eating - always use condiments.

Thank you Julie, and we are already started to laugh, a little hysterical, but laughing just the same.
