Pre-Op Questions
I have a consultation this Saturday and will attend the NUT seminar on Sunday. I'm self-pay so no insurance hoops to jump through - though I'm meeting with a therapist on my own. The surgeon's office has already pencilled me in for surgery 12/17 (RNY). I quit smoking November 7. My question is due to a higher BMI (65+) is there a chance I'll need to do the pre-op diet longer than the standard 2 weeks?
Thanks!
The length of your pre-op diet will depend on your surgeon's guidelines. The more weight you are able to lose before surgery, the higher the chance your surgeon can do your surgery laproscopically and the lower the overall risk of having surgery. If you're willing and able to do a longer pre-surgery liquid diet (or whatever your surgeon recommends), I would encourage you to do so. It's in the best of interest of your long-term health.
Good luck on your continuing journey!

Depends on your surgeon. Mine told me I had to loose weight and shrink my liver or if he got in there and saw I hadn't tried he'd close me back up and not do the surgery. I did not want that to happen.
I started a modified liquid diet on my own 3 weeks before surgery, then went to his liquid diet 2 weeks before.
