We have started shopping for Christmas, but we don't usually decorate much, and not until December!   No tree - the cats destroy it.  I usually get a fresh wreath for the scent though, hang stockings, and maybe a few decorations.  We go to visit family at Christmas anyway and take our presents with us.  I am a shopping addict - always love to buy presents.  I take forever though because it has to be the perfect gift... I don't know why I bother, it rarely is the perfect gift, but I gotta try.  Hours on the internet investigating.. I am already doing that.  Christmas music.  Not so much.  Christmas baking.  Not so much.  I actually am not that crazy about the holidays... maybe once I have kids we'll do it all up.  My husband also isn't much of a Christmas person - he worked in retail too long and it jaded him a bit.  People get nutty in the stores around this time. MMMMM Pecans.  I've also sucked the Eagle Brand from the can!  My mother taught me that.  And yet she's relatively skinny, thanks mom! I have always had a weakness for anything pumpkin or pecan... it'll be interesting to see how I handle my first holiday season since RNY.  Well Marge, I hope you have great fun getting ready for the holidays.  Maybe some of that Christmas spirit will rub off on me too.

I use suck the eagle brand as well.

I love Pecans. I roll cheese balls in them. Put them in Pancakes, in monkey bread, muffins. OMG if I had them for the picking my starting weight would have been  off the scale. Lucky you

Oh my gosh, you are a braver woman than me!  I have already decided to make little needlework bookmarks for Christmas since I don't really want to be near the kitchen yet (I will either be close pre-surgery or shortly post surgery, so why go there?) However, I have to tell you that I really miss having pecans around to play with. Isn't it amazing the places that can be found to put them in, including my favorite Eagle Brand treat, fudge!  No more of that .. as you say "memories .........."  :-D

Life is too short to eat vanilla ice cream and dance with boring men.

Even though I'm Jewish, our family always celebrated Christmas as a festive holiday, so I like it as much as the next person.  I'm a bit annoyed that stores had their Christmas decorations up even before Halloween ended (Wally's, I'm looking in your direction). Costco is all decked out already, and people were shopping like crazy when we were over there on Saturday.  They had their pumpkin pies out, too, and my Lord, did they look delicious!  If I had a firstborn, I'd probably sell him/her for an exemplary piece of pumpkin pie!    Costco was also giving out samples of their faux mashed potatoes.  I was shocked, they actually tasted like real mashies!  I thought about buying a box, but then I realized I probably didn't need instant access to 114 servings of mashed potatoes.  When I drove to my party Saturday night, the jazz station I listen to was playing smooth jazz Christmas music, I think partly to help album sales.  The night air was kind of cool, so it felt kind of Christmas-y outside. My niece is coming from California for Thanksgiving, so we ordered the free-range bird on Friday. The tradition in our family is to decorate the Christmas tree Thanksgiving weekend, so that's what we will be doing.  We're also going to see the stage production of "White Christmas" at the Buell Theater the Friday after Thanksgiving (and I'll be giving thanks that my sister has reserved parking downtown, there's no way we'd find a space on Black Friday if she didn't!) You're not all that far from Tallahassee, so don't confuse the planes into thinking they have already reached the airport.  God knows the pilots and air traffic controllers have enough on their minds already without landing in your backyard!  I flew from Atlanta to Tallahassee once on one of the ASA puddlejumpers back in 1988, and I'll bet it was your trees we sheared the tops off of as we approached the airport.  You'll notice I said, "Once."  The next time I had to go from Tallahassee to Atlanta for meetings, I drove. My birthday is in December.  It's a milestone, too.  Not sure what we have planned yet.  Maybe I'll have PJ haul me up one of those 14ers and leave me there like the ancestors used to do with their elders!    Kix

That title gave me a good laugh! Paris Hilton= not my favorite person in the world. I'm kind of a bah hum bug kind of gal when it comes to Christmas - I've never really liked the holiday. Not sure why, but I tend to get a bit grumpy during the holidays. This year will be even more so since dad is gone, but I'm trying to keep up a good face for mom - she is in a stage where she is just moving, moving and moving and has all these plans for us during the holidays. I think she is afraid if she sits still then everything will be even worse. We are going to San Antonio this christmas (and yes Dunny, I want to meet you when I am there!) to spend it with my aunt and uncle, so I'm going to participate in Christmas the best way I know how, Texas style. I do love the traditions down there, especially in San Antonio. Lots of influence from the Hispanic community and not so 'glitzy'. Have fun decorating Marge, I won't stop you with my grinch mobile

Hi, Marge!  It's a little early for Christmas for me, but the retailers obviously have different thoughts!  I do start some of my shopping early, mostly because I hate being in the stores when it's so crowded in December.  Thank goodness for internet shopping.... I do still bake and make candy for Christmas, and will start looking for baking stuff on sale.  Wish I had a pecan tree in the backyard!  Pecans are always my first choice when using nuts in baking - they are just the perfect flavor and texture - yum!  I found a new cookie recipe I want to try -- golden rugalach w/ apricot filling.  I've bought rugalach from the bakery, but have never tried to make them - hope they turn out!  I love, love, love to bake, and enjoy the holidays because I bake to my heart's content, then serve it at parties or give it away as gifts.  Ah, bliss...   Kellie
