Opening the gym very early -- I'm up late working on the Project from Hell.  I'll probably give it another hour or so until 2 AM and then hit the hay. It's actually kind of peaceful working late at night.  I'm listening to KNX Radio (Los Angeles) streaming on the Internet, and it sounds like yet another fire has erupted near Temecula (San Diego area).  Let's all send strong, healing thoughts to the folks in Southern California -- they have a tough road ahead of them. I have a full day ahead, finishing up this project, getting my errands done, doing my exercises, and still finding time to try and get World Series tickets again at noon.  Not sure if you heard what a disaster it was yesterday -- the servers collapsed (allegedly due to malicious mischief, but I'm not buying it, I think the folks were unprepared), so very few tickets were sold.  Platoons of irate Rockies fans swarmed Coors Field's ticket office demanding that the ticket office open up and sell tickets!  And I thought the Raider Nation was fierce!  I didn't get much of a walk yesterday, so today's goal is to walk around the lake, and get my strength training done.  I'll post my actual exercise later.  I wanted to make sure the gym was open early for those of you who wake up with the chickens! What will you do to move your body today? Kix

Good Morning, Now don't faint, but I've not exercised yet this morning.... LOL It's actually cold here today... in the mid 40's now and my heater isn't working right, so I'm in my thermal jammies waiting for the fix-it man to show up..... I've got to take the dog to the vet later and since that's just right down the road from here we might walk if I can get warmed up some first.... LOL I know 40's isn't cold to ya'll but for North Texas going from 91 on Sunday to 52 on Monday, it's a big deal.... LOL Ya'll have a great day!

From 91 to 52?  Welcome to Colorado.  We get those kind of temperature shifts in a day.  The motto here is, "If you don't like the weather, wait a half-hour." How's the dog?  How's the heater?   Kix

Man, my exercise train has been derailed for the past week; too much going on and not enough time to get it all done.  Today, however, I have time to hit the gym twice and plan to do so!  I'm going to lift weights for upper and lower body at lunch, then will go back for 40-50 minutes of cardio after work.  I'm getting sort of antsy/edgy, and I think that's due in part to missing my regular exercise routine.  I look forward to burning off some energy and stress today! Good luck to everyone finding the time, energy, and motivation to move today!!! Kellie

Kellie, how hard was it for you to amp up your exercise?  I'd like to amp mine up, but when I walked a second one-mile lap around the lake today, it nearly killed me.  Maybe it's too much too soon.  It's kind of hard to only walk a half-mile around the lake, though, unless someone wants to carry me the rest of the way back to the car!  I feel better when I exercise, and also feel antsy when I'm not able to make it to the rec center. At the suggestion of one of the folks in my fitness center, I increased my cardio workouts in 3-5 minute increments.  I started using the elliptical about 2 months after my surgery.  At that time, I could do about 15 minutes.  I did that 15-minute workout several times per week for about 3-4 weeks, then I bumped up the time by 3-5 minutes (don't remember exactly).  I kept doing small, incremental increases of 3-5 minutes every 3-4 weeks until I was able to do 40-60 minutes in one continuous session.   The idea is to slowly increase your stamina and endurance.  Also, if you try to do too much, too quickly, you are at higher risk for injury and muscle soreness.  If you're trying to go from doing one mile to two miles, you're asking your body to do twice as much!  I know you like the idea of walking around the lake, but could you walk part way, then turn around and walk back to your car the same way you came?  I know, I know, doing that messes with the symmetry of walking around the lake, but then you could add time in small increments, eventually working up to be able to go all the way so many times that it makes you dizzy!   I'm with you on feeling better when I exercise.  I've noticed that I get more fidgety when I can't make it to the gym; like I've got to burn off that energy somehow...   Have a great day, and good luck figuring out your walking routine -  Kellie

I've been awake since 4:30, couldn't get back to sleep after a cold kitty cat climbed in to bed and woke me up.  I don't know when she got in the bedroom but she must have been biding her time all night because we usually throw them out of the room when we go to sleep.  I got up at 6 and got ready for work.  Then I parked far away and so it was a 15 min walk to lab.  And it'll be 15 min back.  I am counting that and grocery shopping this afternoon as my exercise because my foot still hurts and the leg attached to it isn't real happy either.  Its cold here.  Not Colorado cold, but definitely San Antonio cold.  And windy, which is rare in SA.

Sounds like it might actually be colder in SA today than it is here in CO.  We hit the low 70s today, and it's supposed to be near 80 tomorrow.  Works for me, I didn't like the snow last Sunday. I did buy four turtlenecks at Wally's today, so it will probably be hot all winter long now! Kix

I've been to Brigham and Women's Hospital, it's a huge facility.  I visited a friend there when she had a baby, and I had to suppress the urge to leave a trail of breadcrumbs so I could find my way back to the main lobby.  It didn't work for Hansel and Gretel, so I figured it wouldn't work for me, either.  Do you have a pedometer?  I really enjoy mine.  It's fun watching the steps add up.  I walked 6500 steps today (and I'm feeling every one of them, too).
