At the suggestion of one of the folks in my fitness center, I increased my cardio workouts in 3-5 minute increments. I started using the elliptical about 2 months after my surgery. At that time, I could do about 15 minutes. I did that 15-minute workout several times per week for about 3-4 weeks, then I bumped up the time by 3-5 minutes (don't remember exactly). I kept doing small, incremental increases of 3-5 minutes every 3-4 weeks until I was able to do 40-60 minutes in one continuous session. The idea is to slowly increase your stamina and endurance. Also, if you try to do too much, too quickly, you are at higher risk for injury and muscle soreness. If you're trying to go from doing one mile to two miles, you're asking your body to do twice as much! I know you like the idea of walking around the lake, but could you walk part way, then turn around and walk back to your car the same way you came? I know, I know, doing that messes with the symmetry of walking around the lake, but then you could add time in small increments, eventually working up to be able to go all the way so many times that it makes you dizzy! I'm with you on feeling better when I exercise. I've noticed that I get more fidgety when I can't make it to the gym; like I've got to burn off that energy somehow... Have a great day, and good luck figuring out your walking routine - Kellie
