Greetings!  I was just wondering about those who have had lapband surgery and how you are doing with it. Are you happy with your weight loss so far? From what I have read, seems to be much slower than RNY. Would love to hear your stories!  Thanks, Betty

Hi, at first I was thinking about the lapband, but given my high BMI I realized I would need both a restrictive sugery (smaller capacity stomach) along with a heavy duty malabsorption piece. That is what appealed to me with both the RNY and the DS. I finally chose the DS because I wanted the greatest amount of malabsorption I could have . I just didn't thinkthe restrictive part would be enough. I am very happy with my weight loss. 50 pounds in the first 2 months. But you will also see that there are those who have done just as well if not better with the RNY. And some lap banders do really well too. It truely comes down to what is best for the individual.  My surgeon has some great info on all the surgeries at www.smallscar.com. Please continue your research. It is sooooo important. Hugs. Jo

My personal opinion is that the lap band is not an appropriate surgery fora nyone with a BMI over 50.  The statistics show that people with the lap band only lose about 1/2 their excess weight, and there is a 34 percent failure rate (see Mis Calculator on the DS forum  she posted a recent study that showed that the lap band should no longer be considered a treatment for morbid obesity.  She was a revision from the Lap band to the DS. The "idea" is great.....but the device doesn't work as well as they would like you to believe. Scott
